The Throw
The PEBL sports the same keypad as the one seen on the RAZR with slight modifications. The keypad has two extra hotkeys for internet and messages which can't be customized. The other change is the use of wavy lines to define the keys instead of straight lines. The same 4 directional D-pad is present for navigation and a center button for selection. The D-pad is raised a little above the keypad level causing the screen to get scratches due to the sliding/opening of the phone. This kind of keypad isn't suited for people who are into messaging since the touch orientation is missing, like you won't know if you have pressed a key or not. This problem is noticed with all the Motorola phones that feature the RAZR keypad like the V3i, L6, L7 SLVR, and now the PEBL.
The handsfree bundled along with the phone is quite big; it doesn't fit and can fall off easily. The handsfree is mono which makes sense as the phone neither has an MP3 player nor FM reception. The phone has its own software bundled along for synchronization with the PC.
Software
The PEBL is only meant to flaunt; the software makes it completely outdated. Motorola has been making advances in design and comfort while other mobile producers have raced ahead with software and usability advances leaving Motorola something like 5 yrs behind. The company has been dragging this software from ages. The same software seen in all of the previous offerings has been used in the PEBL as well.
The software is very confusing and customization is limited. An example for confusing would be; you want to send an image via Bluetooth. After selecting the image you want to transfer, in the options menu it's not "send via Bluetooth" its "move via Bluetooth."
Conclusion
The Motorola PEBL is available for a price of Rs. 9,800 with one year warranty. This phone will solely be purchased either for the style that it flaunts or by Motorola fanatics. The software of the phone is not user friendly, and for people using Nokia for many years, it will be a task to handle. The phone has a good battery life of around 4hrs talktime and 250 hrs of standby time. But there are many phones available in the same price range which can offer way more features.
Though on the features and usability grounds it doesn't score, none of the others can call for a style statement that the PEBL can pull off in a crowd, especially the auto flip open will make anyone go WOW!!!
The phone lacks many things but the thing that i miss in pebl the most is memory. who created the memory capacity of this phone and what was he thinking ? the phone also does not have an expansion slot. the bottom line is the phone is only to flaunt it sleekness and nothing else. YET I USE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am frustrated also with the motorola pebl. i like its sleekness and colour but that's where it ends. The phone's memory leaves a lot to be desired, and is there no way to delete the preloaded ringtones??
This fone is a real example of a company like Motorola designing a fone with only one thing in mind- STYLE & STYLE only- otherwise useless pc of heavy wieght crap wth no expansion slot- and inbuilt memory limited to 5 MB. Only fools who do not do any research on fone features & look fo rstyle alone will perhaps buy this- there are better, full featured fones available at lesser price in the market.Design alone does not make for the rest Moto !!
I agree with you 100%. Clearly this phone was only designed for fashion. The only thing good about the moto pebl is that it looks good and it is compact and easy to carry around. My excuse is I got it as a gift from my boyfriend. Other than that I would have discarded this a long time ago.
If you look at phones in the market these days.. they come with tons of stuff. i meant stuff people talk about a lot but rarely use. EDGE, GPRS, MMS, EMAIL, giga pixel camera, infrared and host of other acronyms thrown in. lesser we talk about camera in the phones, better. Only FM seems to be the widely used "extra" feature as far as India goes. Rest of it is just pure clout value. "Oooh! I have a fone that has dolby 5.1 speaksers for ringing!!".
If one goes for Just a phone, we are left with some shabby neanderthal models to choose from. One has to appreciate Motorola for their attention to the rebelion faction of mobile users who are happy to pay a little premium for Just a good looking phone (nothing more.. nothing less) .. VGA or not, camera in a phone is a big sham. Traditionally Motorolas have been underdogs of this industry in spite of churning out phones that are excellent at their core competency.. that is being a Phone!!! :) long live MOTO
sure thing. you're right. we can use the other "extra" features. ummm ... for example, knockin' a burglar off tryin' to steal your ipod from the almirah ?!
i am so upset with my pebl i thought there would be some way of gaining more memory but motorola lock included files so you cant even delete them to gain some space! i waited for ages to get a new phone and now i have to live with this disappointment for 18 months!(length of contract)
WOW...on what basis u call it a women's phone...It all depends whether one is good enough to carry something...also...just coz da features r not all dat cool u cant dump it to the women....check out the looks mate!!!
PS..Neither do i own the phone nor am i a woman!
Too difficult to handle.Would prefer Nokia for the sheer convenience of usage. What use for a phone if you cant conveniently handle one. Looks only would invite lifters taking it away.
its a sad phone.. sad features.. an sadder in looks.. man if i wanted 2 carry a pebble in my hand id get it from the beach for free .. y pay 10k for a phone with features of a 4 k phone??
