After an overwhelming response for the RAZR V3, Motorola has tried to cash in on the slim revolution by introducing the latest addition to its range of cell phones, the L7 SLVR. The L7 is one of the slimmest phones available in the market today. It scores mostly on its Oomph value. But, that's about as best it can get. The kit includes: - Handset. - 3.7V Li-Ion battery. - Manual. - Charger. - 128 MB memory card. - Wire stereo headset. - USB cable. - CD with Mobile Phone Tools. If looks could kill, the L7 SLVR sure has enough to floor most of the competition. Being only 11.5mm in depth, makes it slimmer than the V3 and weighs just 96 grams. It features a similar chemically-etched metallic keypad as the V3. The design, materials and thinness of the device makes for a striking appearance; it has an option to use removable memory cards up to 512 Mb. It features a large 262k TFT colour display with a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels.

Features L7 comes with a VGA camera (640 x 480 pixels) with 4x digital zoom which I must say is pretty ordinary; nothing too grand about it. It gives a decent picture quality, but it keeps getting worse the moment you try the 4X 'digital' zoom. Also featured is a Video Recorder option which you can use to create MMS or capture video in general. Although, the phone has an internal memory of just around 6.5 MB, one can use external removable memory cards for more storage. Motorola L7's keypad is pretty flamboyant but, it is not suitable for those of us who are SMS crazy. The fact that keys react well or that each press is accompanied by a discrete click makes no difference. The keys are difficult to distinguish by touch and are thus frequently mistaken. One of the main inconvenience is the displacement of the middle key column by approximately half a key downwards. Orientation grooves aren't of much help either. The L7's interface and controls are pretty much the same as other Motorola models, and if you are not used to one, be prepared for some aggravation and hair-pulling. Picture phonebook (500 entries) is another fancy option available as well as user-customizable soft key functions, main menu and shortcuts. <__PAGETITLE__Slim Revolution __/PAGETITLE__> The MP3 playback feature is one of the USP for the L7 and being compatible with iTunes is a bonus. It supports both MP3 and AAC formats. Ringtones are of good quality and support MP3s. The Handsfree speaker phone is another improvement we appreciate. Sound quality with the earphones is decent compared to what competitors have to offer but it's certainly not as good as the ones you come across in Sony Ericsson Walkman range of phones. Talking of music, one notable absentee here is the FM tuner. Connectivity options are good, with full support for wireless Bluetooth connections, as well as USB, although infra-red is not supported. The L7 SLVR accepts Transflash memory cards, so the memory can be expanded up to 512 MB - very useful for storing MP3 tracks and videos. I must say we did have a tough time trying to transfer files using Bluetooth and the phone just accepts and starts incoming transfer whether you want it or not. Whatever happened to permissions? A few advanced features include Push To Talk (dependent on your service provider), where you can use the phone as a two-way radio. Java games are good and you can download more games as well as applications as the L7 has WAP 2.0 and GPRS support. Browser support is a plus as well.

Also, the phone features a single multi functional port i.e., the same port is used for the charger, USB cable and the earphones, which clearly rules out the possibility of using the earphones while charging. Coming down to one of the most important factor for mobiles, battery life, we can say that this is one department where the L7 SLVR scores beyond our expectations. You can listen to MP3s without being afraid of draining the battery too much. Even after listening to MP3s for almost 4 hours in four 1 hour sessions, there was hardly any drop in the battery graph. Rated Standby time is up to 345 hours and Talk time is around 315 minutes. Conclusion In terms of functionality, the SLVR is superior to the RAZR V3. Looks wise, it's as cool as the V3 but a clamshell phone has its own charm (a matter of individual taste). The display with 262k colours and high resolution is one of the best in this price range. The camera is typical VGA with the benefit of a video recorder, and there's a built-in MP3 player that can handle both MP3 and AAC format. Sound quality is pretty neat. Ringtones are good quality and support MP3, and there's a good range of additional features like email and quad band. Battery life is good too. The only real flip sides are the interface, the keypad and the absence of FM radio. For a street price of around Rs. 10,500 with a one year warranty this is a neat phone with ample style and features. Only if the phone software was as good, it would have been a great choice. Thats the way its supposed to work ! If you notice on the top of the phone (top right), there is a light sensor, depending on the ambient lighting conditions, the keypad lights-up or does not. A simple test..block the sensor with your finger in broad daylight conditions..sure enough it will light-up !

hey,when converting to 3gp, lower the bitrate to between 100-200, frame rate to between 6-8 and frame size to 176x144-qcif. Try Yassa Video converter,if it fails,then u didn't do it right so try again

Download "NCH Switch" audio converter from the net. Recode the mp3 file for 24 or 32 kbps bit rate. Your file size comes down from say 5MB to (0.8 to 1.7)MB. Play around with the settings for the optimum performance that u like. I've got presently 70 mp3 songs and three 3gp songs (~9MB each) on my 128MB SD card. Try this 2 believe the nice audio qlty.

There was no iTunes preloaded in L7(and you can't), instead a digital player(you ca n find this in Games & Apps -> Digital Audio Player) was developed by Motorola for this model(its preloaded in the phone)

well, this phone has a lot of "improvements" from the RAZR. The camera it's not the best but much better that cameras on other phones. Itunes works very good. The bad thing is the 100songs limit but if thinking again if we want more songs on itunes, we should get an ipod. The video camera is not good also but this is a "fashion phone" so soon we'll see more motorola phones better than this. For now, this is a good phone that i totally recomend

Got the L7 ten days back. It's main usp is the looks, never ever fails to draw admiring looks from every person I meet. Battery life is great, I have bluetooth and reception is great. I use a Scratchgard for the screen, and the rest of the baody is pretty hard, does not scratch. Do not use a cover or skin, it makes the phone bulky and hides the great beauty of the piece. Paid 8.5K for it with bill.

shailesh il tell u what i use my 6630 (smartphone!! lol) for- 1st of all i have oggplay which plays ogg verebis songs (much muhc better than aac or mp3 and it takes less space. .)then i have opera symbian which is much better than opera mobile. . .then i have msn messenger for s60 . . way better than the bs java messenegrs . . google local which is google earth for mobile. . photofix which is like photoshop on ur phone. . smartmuvee wid wich i can store 10 muvees on my phone and loads of mucis vids and all. . an rss reader for techtree and all. . .satelite radio, i use my smartphone as a webcam, as a mouse, to record phone calls, to uplaod home videos on my site, i can hijack bluetooth connections of dumb phone(SE , Moto etc. .lol)i can use it as a spycam, i can use 2 pinpoiont my exact location newhere in the world. . i can play ngage games on it, i can play gameboy advance , NES and sonic games on it, i can read ebooks with mobipocket reader. . this was all just Applications. . .now games. . ah i ahve like 80 games 2 lazy 2 type em all. . .but but i have games like sims mobile, fifa 2005, crash notro, mario kart, age of empires mobile and i can play online games coz 6630's 3G. i ahve bpl wap(50 buks a month) but my phone really speeds up the connection and allows multiple connections. . so i can download 2 songs , listen 2 music, and read an ebook simultaneoulsy. . do u really want me 2 go on about what else a smartphone can do??

I am also looking to buy a motorola V3x. I don,t think it is yet officialy available in india. but still u can import one from U.A.E. Be careful to buy it from a trustful seller.

L7 does not hv fm radio and so does v3 razor. Also v3 does not even hv the facility of hands free...cmon guys motorola comes up with good designs but when it comes to functions the basics itself r missing....its a pity for such a good looking pieces.

No option for Handsfree ... I have the BT Headset AND the handsfree unit that is shipped with the V3 by Default - you really need to do your homework before shooting your mouth off in these tech forums Kasturi.

The BT Headset is not part of standard accessory - but other headset is a part of the package you get when you buy the V3 - Not to mention the neat leather pouch AND the software which if I might add is rather well done!

Some people (like)do not need FM when they have a 1GB card to watch movies. Apparently FM is used only in bery few countries now. Many have switched to Visual-Radio / sat radio. v3 razr and v3i are different products, only look same somewhat

looks deptt nokia sucks.but on the other front like features it speaks for itself. plus nokia is much more durable than other brands. but much has to be done on the looks ................

now that i went and got myself this thing, here is my commment. You cant do ANYTHING else while the music plays thru the Java Media Player (atleast i dont a way to do it) Though there is another player included (seems to be less good looking, like the nokia one) The Java Music Player has a visualisation , but not like the winamp type ;-) The Camera is pretty good for your comp, e-mailing, there is a night mode, though i havent got any good results with it yet (just 8 hrs gone dude) Only Two Games Wah! Yeah, yo can get java games of motorolas indian website @ 50 bucks The software for comp connection is AWESOME, can leave your phone connected to usb so that it CHARGEs itself and accept calls (have to speak,hear thru the phones speaker though), sms on your comp. The mini-sd Memory card is SMALL. YOU HAVE TO SEE IT .. like 1/10 or maybe 1/15th if the normal SD card. They give an adapter in case you need to use the card in some other device. There are lots of hacks and skins online ofr the phone, and entire site dedicated to motorola modding (google it) Guys, please dont buy this phone. I wanna be the only one with it.

great buy!!! i had it for about a week now and i am so used to its keypad that i am comfortable with it, earlier i had used nokia only but this is similarly comfortable.. its a great buy. awsome mp3 player, sleek killin look, and a great eye catcher.....

Nice looks. Great color sceen. But when it comes to sms, it slows me down. Can't use songs in the memory card as ring or message tones, need to move them to phone memory first, which is small in capacity. Cant open pictures as well phone always says, "too big to open". Never had this limitations with the competition.

v3 might be cheaper- but in functionality is poorer than L7-practically not much memory in v3-it is limited to 5.5 MB & no expansion.

I love mine too, i've had it for almost 3 weeks, no complaints except that the KEYPAD scratches, similar to the Nano, but relitively unnoticiable

Actually, apart from having a VGA cam- with slightly blurred fotos- I found the L7 quite attractive in terms of other features, specially organiser and 5 diff.clocks- and my friend who owns it, says batt life is quite outstanding. To top it all L7 is for the moment-the best looking set in market.

I agree - the L7 is truly a fantastic buy and worth every paise. I used to be a hardcore Nokia fan, but after I began experiencing one problem after another on my handsets, I confronted bthe Nokia executives who too confirmed they had a problem with the software. That made me go completely off Nokia and have been using Sony Ericsson and Motorola - first the L6 and then moved to L7.
