Mercenaries 2: World in Flames [PS3 Review]

Meet interesting people, blow them up. If you like explosions, this is the game for you

Tons of explosions, huge array of vehicles and weapons, solid frame-rate and no load-times, looks good

Bad voice acting, plethora of glitches and bugs, dumb AI

Mercenaries 2 is an open-ended, shoot'em up title, with more explosions than all the Michael Bay films put together. The idea is very simple: you go on a mission and blow whatever you can find, and you blow them for good. It seems that the game has been designed with one thing in mind, and that is to make every explosion count. And believe me there are tons of them. So, if you are one of those people who like a good plot, a deep gameplay mechanic, I suggest you wait for some other game.

The game is a 'third person' shooter and revolves around a group of mercenaries that get any job done, if the price is right. The team consists of Mattias Nilsson, Jennifer Mui, and Chris Jacobs, three characters with different attributes, but same dialogues. You can choose one of the three mercs -- Mattias has faster health regen, Chris Jacobs can carry more ammo and Jennifer Mui runs faster. I would suggest to start the game with Mattias, not only is he a really bad actor and quite funny, but his faster health regen helps a lot. You start the game by meeting Ramon Solano, a very rich businessman with a vision in store for Venezuela. So you are asked to rescue a Friend of Solano's who is very important to his operation. Rescuing Solano's friend is your first mission and it acts as a very destructive tutorial, after which you are shot in the ass by Solano's men. Betrayal a merc can handle, but getting shot in the rear means revenge and thus starts the revenge trail.
