AMD is generally known to roll out budget chipsets in pairs. Last time it was the 690G and 690V and in recent times, the 780G and 780V. A few weeks back we put the Gigabyte 780G through the grind and we were mighty impressed with its feature set and performance. The MSI K9A2GM F-V2 is a budget board based on the RS780V chipset. The AMD RS780 series is designed for people who want to build low cost system around the Phenom platform and don't want to bother with over-clocking much.

The features are almost identical to the RS780G but let's have a look at the salient ones:

The main difference between the RS 780G and the RS 780V is the onboard graphics chip. The one used on the 780V is the Radeon HD 3100 with full DX 10 and Hybrid CrossFire support. This means you can pair a HD 34xx graphics card with the onboard card and you have a CrossFire ready system (also works with ATI 2400 series of cards). Hybrid Graphics is the hottest technology at the moment and both Nvidia and ATI/AMD are working around the clock to improve their performance by constantly releasing new drivers.



Here we have the specifications of the 3100 graphics chip. The graphics core is clocked at 500MHz and the memory at 1000MHz. This should provide decent performance for casual gaming.

One thing I want to point out is that if you check MSI's site there is no K9A2GM -F V2 but it is listed as K9A2VM-F V2 which is essentially the same board. So don't be confused, just check the label to make sure it's a 780G/V chipset before buying.
