Death is the second-most-feared phenomenon worldwide; the first is public speaking. But let's not get into that. For centuries, people have wished for immortality; everybody wants to see the world change over the centuries. And now, the latest game from Mistwalker studios for the Xbox 360 called Lost Odyssey is about an immortal called Kaim, a warrior who has lived for a thousand years. The game is a very emotional tale about Kaim and his journey to rediscover himself, as he has lost his memory (a thousand years of memories can be overwhelming).
Over the centuries, Kaim has met many people, outlived many friends, and survived many battles; he feels lonely and depressed -- it's like he's going through a phase of mid-life crisis (note that 1,000 immortal years could well be 40 to 45 mortal years). The game is an JRPG -- a Japanese RPG, a whole genre in its own. True to every traditional JRPG, Lost Odyssey is turn-based, with a good vs. evil theme, great graphics and CG, a soundtrack that can move you to tears courtesy Nobue Uematsu (musical god and composer for the Final Fantasy series), and a busty princess with a low neckline. Sound interesting?
The review seems cheap, lacking... somehow and most "details" the reviewer seems to have mentioned can be easily misconstrued.
If the reviewer actually played a shipping [retail] copy the load times would have been in the vicinity of 12-18 seconds.
NOT the JAP import.
The setting is a steampunk/fantasy world
, so sorry no animated pubescent Jap Schoolgirls in pleated skirts jumping and screaming "coo".
For someone who thoroughly enjoyed blue dragon on the 360 and FF games on the PS, finding a distinct lack of JRPGs in your 360's collection this is a Godsend.
You need to go get a "retail" copy of the game and try yourself. The loadtimes are NOT that long...cut each number you gave in half and you might be closer to the truth of it.
Outside of that I agree with the rest of the preview.
