LG KG195

LG KG195

The LG KG195 is great value for money, providing great features at a reasonable price. But is using it a great experience?

Feature packed, Light and well-balanced, Bluetooth, Good call quality, Good interface.

Fingerprint magnet, Battery life, Minor interface issues.

Build Quality & Design

The phone is modeled along the tried-and-tested candy-bar design. On the face of the phone, just to the top and left of the screen is the Signal Led, which lights up when the phone is receiving a signal.

To the right of the phone are the headset/USB cable connector, camera quick access button and the microSD card slot.

To the left are the volume buttons.

The first thing I noticed as soon as I took the phone out of its box was the weight. This thing is light as a feather. I checked and realized the battery was not in. I added the battery, but that didn't make much of a difference. Besides being light, the phone is also perfectly balanced, which gives it a really nice feel.

The body of the phone is completely plastic. Combine this with the high-gloss factor, and its weight, and you have a phone that feels rather flimsy. I would have loved to disprove this notion, but my tests found it to be true.

Most of the exterior has a glossy finish, while the matte look is used on the sides of the phone. As you can imagine, this makes the phone a fingerprint magnet and also cuts down the viewability of the screen drastically when exposed to direct sunlight. The phone has a bright 1.8-inch screen, which provides a satisfactory experience, except in direct sunlight.

The keypad is definitely not the best in the market. It's not very tactile, and requires considerable pressure. Although it gives a good feedback when pressed, in most cases, you won't really need the feedback since you are using considerable force to press the keys. The keypad also has a minor design flaw. If you're the type that slides your finger across the keys while dialing, instead of lifting your finger between numbers, the design will give you a few problems, at least in the beginning. The reason is that the middle buttons (2,5,8,0) are positioned slightly lower than the keys at the sides.

1) on this LG KG195: could anybody tell me how to insert someone office number (on the 4rd line, that saved in the phone memory - not in the SIM card) to the speed dial? I guess LG KG195 couldn't do this simple job. A bug? 2) instead of sending a business card (vCard), sometimes I just need to insert phone number in the sms's body text. This LG KG195 seems couldn't do the job for inserting those numbers. It only works for 1st line of the phonebook (mobilephone number) - another bug?

The Usha Lexus 828B beats this phone hands down in the quality of pictures and the sound... and, of course, the looks. Why is TT so hung up on the Nokia, SE, Samsung, LG models. There are now so many better value options.
