We've recently reviewed a Blu-ray reader -- just a reader. But if you want the real thing that's capable of writing to Blu-ray media and plays HD-DVDs, then things get more interesting. Well, all this is available in a single optical drive -- the LG GGW-H20L Super Multi Blue Blu-ray rewriter and HD DVD-ROM drive. Yes, this is what we are going to review today.

LG GGW-H20L Super Multi Blue Blu-ray rewriter & HD DVD-ROM drive

Bundle

LG GGW-H20L Super Multi Blue Blu-ray rewriter & HD DVD-ROM drive
SATA cable
4-Pin Molex to SATA power adapter cable
Manual
Mounting screws
Blank Blu-ray Disc (BD-RE SL)
CyberLink Hi-Def Suite

Including a BD-RE is a good idea because it gives you the taste of writing BD discs. However, LG didn't include an extra bezel or tray cover. Replacement bezels or tray covers let you alter and match the looks of the drive with your PC cabinet.

I have been using this drive for almost 3 weeks now. It is very shocking that writing 25GB can be done in 41.20 mins. May I ask at what speed is this writing done? I have tried writing 16GB at 2x & it took 62 mins on the BD-RE provided. Please clarify this matter & do not mislead users by furnishing such wrong data.

This Drive is available here in the States for a maximum of 300$ which amounts to roughly Rs.12,000. I used to pay a lot for Optical drives back in the late 90's into early 2000's in India and did notice that the CD-Writers market crashed around 03 and the DVD writer market much later. I would not have expected this trend to continue with BR-Writers but I am expecting it to fall by 2010. Although totally unrelated I just really wish the LCD market crashes to like Rs.8000 for Monitors between 20"-22"
