It's time for a whopping half a Terabyte drive. Read on to know more about this drive and its performance
Hard Drive manufacturers are releasing newer drives with bigger capacities and we have already covered most of them till 400 GB as of now. Its time to move on.. already. This time it's a whopping half a Terabyte drive that's come for review. Let's find out more about this drive and its performance as well.
The Drive
The Hitachi Deskstar 7K500 is a 500 GB SATA Hard Drive with a big 16 MB buffer. It sports 5 platters of 100 GB each and 10 heads, despite which it still maintains the dimensions of a regular hard drive. The formatted capacity when using the NTFS file system stands at 467 GB. This drive comes with a black and silver combination which is common to most of the drives. A part of its circuitry underneath is visible. This open circuitry underneath is with a purpose to aid heat decipitation at a much faster rate, keeping the drive relatively cooler for better performance and longevity. The connectors for the SATA data cable, SATA power supply and the regular Molex power follow the conventional layout and are present at the back of the drive. In addition, the Hitachi Deskstar 7K500 comes with NCQ (native command queuing) support and Staggered (delayed) spin-up feature, which altogether provides faster data access and better power management.

15K can fetch you a AMD Sempron 2.6, 256MB, 80GB, CD ROM, 17" Monitor, KB/Mouse (bought recently)....in plain words..."PC". 500GB is great for people who have loads of data.

Great work and words Santosh. Now go ahead and store 500 GB in your "PC". Obviously the hard disk is meant for people who have to store loads of data! Does it needs to be mentioned???

amazing capacity but not for domestic use at 15000 rupees............If this comes down by another 5 k, then it would bbe a very attractive option.

I really don't know about others but my clients are very happy with this drive coz it really solve their problem. This is a solution for the Audio-vedio Segment where Higher Capacity drives are really usefull. with extra 8 MB Buffer. Also with double transfer speed.
