Google's Picasa has created waves throughout the world as more and more individuals are warming up to the possibility of transforming their average pictures into studio-like prints.
But is this the right tool for the job? We used the Google Picasa 2.5 to find out just that. Read on to know more.
Before we begin the review, let me make it clear that Picasa is not meant to replace professional image-editing tools like Photoshop, etc, but to give the casual enthusiasts a chance to satisfy his/her creative bend of mind (to a certain extent) or perform the same task as a professional with just a few clicks.
Downloading Picasa (v2.5) took just about 5 minutes as Google has managed to crunch most image-editing features and functions in just 4.7 MB.
The installation process was just a matter of 2 more minutes. Most of the time was lost trying to select the installation directory as I did not wish to install it at the default location (%Windows%\Program Files\Picasa).
Now, before we proceed with the review, let's see what Picasa is all about.
The Application
Picasa is a free image-editing software that helps you find, edit, and share all the pictures on your PC.
On running the software for the first time, it automatically locates all your pictures and sorts them into visual albums organized by date with easy-to-remember folder names. Picasa also makes advanced editing simple by putting one-click fixes and powerful effects at your mouse clicks.
A smooth 3D animated carousel-type timeline or a slideshow is used to display pics.
The new Web Albums feature allows you to email or upload photos to the web with just one click. You can even download your friends' photos directly back to Picasa on your own computer making sharing relatively easy.

newer versions of picasa allow to save edits we have done permanently. so the problem of edits not being shown outside the program doesnt arise. picasa rocks. but their web album service is still too primitive

hi,
on ur comment that, the edits made in picasa arent shown in other programs, the idea is to export the images into a new folder once u have done the edits. this makes the edit permenant.
there is an option for hierarchical folder view .
