Fly SX220

Fly SX220

The Fly SX220 in the latest entrant in the stlye phone arena. Can it create a buzz?

Good MP3 player, image enhancement application, large screen, good bundle.

Highly susceptible to smudges, memory card slot too deep, not tactile keypad.

Build & Design

The build of the phone is great. It's sturdy and the minimalist design of external buttons reduces chances of pressing the wrong button. The only external button is, in fact, the camera button. The remaining part of the exterior is completely encased in metal, giving it a stylish, yet solid feel. The phone is also nicely balanced, with it being neither top-heavy nor bottom-heavy when opened.

The SX series stands for SeXy, but the SX220 tends more towards the 'bling' sexy. It's chrome finish is flashy, with a great affinity for fingerprint smudges. Looks like the Fly guys knew what they were doing when they added the cleaning cloth to the bundle. The recessed secondary OLED display on the cover is a nice touch, even though it cuts off the date a little.

The next big problem was the memory card. The greatest efforts using the push-out method didn't seem to impress the phone one bit. It was finally a 50 paise coin that did the trick.

On my first call, the phone seemed longer than most clam-shells in the market, but I got used to it after a few calls. The keypad is flat and certainly not the most ergonomically designed keypad around, but at least it is tactile.

The screen is nice and roomy at 240x320 and lives up to the usual great viewing experience of the other Fly phones.

I have never been impressed with the fly phones and this one isn't too impressive either. Nothing to make one jump out of his seat.
