Fly Hummer HT1

Fly Hummer HT1

Rohan Naravane, May 14, 2008 1721 hrs IST

Fly teams up with the American car maker to make a phone that's tough on the outside and soft on the wallet.

Solid-looking design and construction, Good quality touch-screen, AV cable in the package, Decent pricing

Unintuitive UI, Stiff keypad, Low MP3 playback volume, slow data transfer rates

Design and Features

The first time when I looked at the Fly Hummer HT1, I thought it looked familiar. Then I realized its layout was similar to the Fly E300 phone that I'd reviewed just last week. The only differences, other than the color scheme, were the missing mechanical wheel on the D-pad, and the fact that it was slightly thinner.

The HT1 is available in three colors that are in tandem with the Hummer shades. We received the 'khaki' model -- it's got a shiny dark green front panel with steel plating at the side, along with the official 'HUMMER' logo placed below the screen. The D-pad is shaped like the vehicle's hubcap. The battery panel is covered with a camouflage, which looks pretty cool. All in all, the phone looks quite decent and is passable for someone who's into the 'Hummer' brand.

The phone looks pretty sturdy, like the Hummer.

The phone has a bright and sharp, decently-sized screen. It's a touch-screen, mind you, and one with a decent response. The handset slides out the numeric keypad just like the E300; which is pretty stiff and leads to a somewhat an uncomfortable tapping experience (bless the presence of the alterative touch-input). Other keys are pretty decent.

Volume controls and earphone/charging/data cable jack to the left and IR port to the right.

You should have included a snapshot of the UI considering that you are so critical about it
