F.E.A.R: Extraction Point

F.E.A.R: Extraction Point

Navneet Prakash, Nov 28, 2006 1825 hrs IST

Remember F.E.A.R, the game that turned your nights into a fright-fest? It's time to be afraid, once again.

Scary, Action packed, Great sound effects.

Nothing new, No major change in Multiplayer.

The enemy AI is the same; they still react perfectly in any given situation. There are a couple of new enemy types; the ones to look out for are the ones that you can't see. Remember the optical camouflage "dudes"? Well, they are back and are smarter than last time. You will have to heavily rely on shadows to track down these monsters, as they can rip you apart in no time. But without a doubt, the gunplay is awesome and will keep you engrossed for hours. Although the game is short around 5-7 hours, depending on your skill level, it's still a great addition to the series.

Graphics and Sound
There are no major changes as far as the graphics go, and it remains a great-looking game. The dynamic lighting and fire effects are a treat, and so are the blood and gore. There is no doubt that this game has set new standards in gore effects; nothing like ripping the enemy from limb to limb. As for the sound, it's par excellence, and is the driving force in the whole experience. The game is best enjoyed with a great sound system, played at night in the dark.

Verdict
This is a great expansion pack, and should not be missed by fans or first timers both. As I mentioned before, this game is too similar to the original, but when the original is a masterpiece, I guess I shouldn't complain. Go ahead enjoy the FEAR all the way to the Extraction Point.

I never found this Game really Scary! Doom 3 gets all the credit for Scaring the $hit out of me :D By the way .. I loved FEAR Combat! Multiplayer. Its one hell of a Game! The Graphics and Special Effects are great.

Doom 3 Scary?? How old r u?

Tushar...dude...have you even played Doom 3? It is one scary game. I'm playing F.E.A.R and Doom 3 right now. Doom3 rocks on the fear factor scale. F.E.A.R is more realistic and less scary.

lol... DOOM3 scary? Even Kids wont be scared. It wont match F.E.A.R in the scare factor. Try both games at high quality settings and resolutions above 1280 x 1024 and then tell me then. Even FEAR is not that very scary if you come to that, but the suspense is such that it keeps you on the edge.

It doesn't take resolution or settings for one to realize how creepy a game can get. Look up when you enter some rooms in Doom3. The monsters crawling around are pretty intense. F.E.A.R is a good game and does manage to interest very much but sorry to say, I played Doom3 on my laptop and it creeped me out. A 5.1 setup will really bring out the creeps in the game.

I am done with F.E.A.R. The last piece of the game though elaborate does not impress. The game is very scary to say the least but not as much as D3. D3 though surreal is one maze of scary characters!

The only part I felt truly creeped out was whenever Alma flashed in and out. Sound effects are at their best in this game. I played FEAR mainly after 12 in night with lights off and on surround speaker setup. But fact remains that only Doom 3 managed to scared me even in broad daylight. FEAR, sadly to me is not the best game out there but yes, it is a very good game and it does not disappoints.
