Features

The PictureMate PM 270 looks more like a makeup box or an ice box complete with handle, depending on the way you look at things. Small and boxy, it weighs just 2.5 kg, meaning it's easy to carry it around, just about anywhere. Carry a printer around, you ask? Yes, you heard right -- this printer has a provision to work with a small battery that can power it up for PC-less printing, for when you take it with you during your photo-excursions.

The top cover (with a transparent window to let you view the LCD display beneath) is hinged at one end. It needs to be opened to serve as the input paper tray when the printer is in use.

Externally, the printer appears white; when the top cover is opened, a grey control panel and a 3.6-inch swivel TFT LCD are exposed. This swivel screen can be tilted for you to be able to see it well.

The control panel and the instructions on the LCD

The control panel consists of several feather-touch buttons for different functions including Power, Zoom, 4-Way Scroll, OK, Menu, Back, Print, and Stop. Using these controls is fairly simple, and the instructions on the LCD only make things easier. (When you power on the device, you are shown easy instructions on how to use the printer in PC-connected as well as standalone mode.)

The memory card slots, for PC-less, direct printing

The output tray is at the front, and can be opened with a gentle push, after which you'll be able to access the different memory slots that let you do PC-less printing. Popular card formats such as SD, MS, MS PRO, xD, CF, and more are supported. When a memory card is inserted, it is automatically read, and the contents are displayed on the LCD. You can then select what you want to print. (We must mention that the LCD is capable of displaying sharp images with brilliant colors.) You can choose whether you want to print borderless, with-borders, proofsheet, up to 4 per print, or even backup index prints with as many as 56 thumbnails. With a press of the Menu button, you can proceed to edit the photos: fix them (enhance them if they are too dark or too bright, for example), apply Red-Eye reduction, rotate them, and even add color effects.

The rear view of the printer

At the rear of the printer is the PictBridge port (for direct printing from compatible digital cameras), the USB port, and the power connector. An optional Bluetooth adapter -- a dongle -- is available (it needs to be purchased separately for Rs 3,149), which goes into the PictBridge slot and lets you print wirelessly using almost any Bluetooth source (such as your mobile phone or a compatible digital camera).

The compartment for the optional battery

Near the middle is the battery compartment that can house the optional battery (which can be purchased separately for Rs 3,500), which makes for exceptional portability.

Here s where the photo cartridge goes in

The photo cartridge compartment is situated near the bottom. The cartridge looks like a VHS cassette, and is inserted in the bay somewhat like how a video cassette is inserted into a VCR. There is only a single cartridge that handles all the colors (CMYK), so if one color gets spent, you have to replace the cartridge. Like other Epson printers, this one is also based on piezoelectric printing technology. The difference here is that, the IC chip on the cartridge retains information about the cartridge status, thus allowing you to remove it and store it safely (in a cool, dark place) when you do not intend to use it for a long period, and replace it when required. This was not the case with piezoelectric printing a few years ago: once installed, you could remove the cartridge only after it was expended. Not any more.

i think if you compare it with the other brands its the best with the output cost as low as Rs8/- and if you do only pp on it it is even lower. Also depends upon your supplier and the quantities of consumables that you buy at 1 shot. The product is by far the best in the bussiness whenyou check the pic quality , features and correction options girish bhatia9820809189
