Dead Space is a very scary game, trust me. If you are amongst those who jump out of their skin while watching the 13 Ghosts, I strongly recommend readying a couple of paramedics for any eventuality while you embark on this particular adventure. Dead Space is one of industry giant EA's most ambitious projects by far, and they deserve hearty applause for their brave effort. The game is innovative; it has a complex and involving plot and great gameplay mechanics that let you slice enemies into tiny pieces. Welcome to a sadist's paradise.

To fully enjoy the nuances of Dead Space, I recommend that you watch the animated prequel called Dead Space: Downfall, not the best of animated films, but it adds to the experience. I have mentioned earlier that the game is very similar to the Sam Neil film "Event Horizon," and I stick by that claim. The game revolves around Isaac Clarke, a space engineer at a company called C.E.C. Isaac and four others are deployed on the "USG Ishimura," a spaceship that can crack planets apart to extract valuable ore. Planet crackers usually undergo a lot of mechanical strain and occasionally need some repairs. Isaac's girlfriend is on board the Ishimura, so the repair is more than a routine job for him. Isaac's team tries to contact the Ishimura crew, but there is no response. After a string of unexpected events, they end up crash landing on the Ishimura. Once on the ship, there is no rest, you are continuously on the move. In the generic shooter world that exists today, this slow and steady buildup can be a bit overwhelming at first, but once the scary monsters start rushing in to rip you apart, your senses come to life. The Ishimura has gone through hell and all that you see around is dead bodies of the crew shredded to pieces. The enemy on board the ship are alien creatures called Necromorphs. They have taken over the entire ship and consist mostly of mutated crew members. The Necromorphs mutate the dead crew members and take over their bodies, a process presented in detail in Downfall. The ship is heavily damaged and your job is to repair the ship and get it running, for which you will have to go to different parts of the mammoth ship. Most parts of the ship are heavily infiltrated by Necromorphs. This is the basic plot; how you manage to repair the ship, what happens to your girlfriend, and how you fight off the Necromorphs is for you to find out.
