Ever felt like you are watched all the time? Everywhere you go, there's a feeling that someone is following you around, going through your stuff. I mean 'personal' stuff; just to know what you are up to. Well, not that I can do much about people following you around but I can definitely help you secure your so-called personal stuff (on a shared comp at least) from your nagging bro/sis/mom/dad/colleagues etc. for whom the greatest pleasure is knowing what you have been up to or what files got stored in your directory.
Last time we reviewed a security related product, it was the JetFlash 210, which was a USB drive. But you can't really fit everything on a thumb drive, can you? So, this time we will look at a small yet powerful application that can protect and secure your files and folders from any intrusions.
CryptoExpert can encrypt selected files so that only an authorized user can have access to the encrypted data. It does this by creating a 'Container' which in effect is a drive volume that is loaded once you input the correct password. So, whatever you save in this 'Container' or Drive Volume is encrypted using a complex 128-bit algorithm. But before we go into the part where I explain how this software works, let's see what encryprion is all about.
What is encryption?
Encrypting data means getting it transformed into a string of characters undecipherable by others. What actually happens is that by using a secret key i.e. the equivalent of a code, the cryptography system transforms your data into gibberish. If the scrambling of the data is done properly, the original file can only be unscrambled and read by someone who knows the secret key i.e. the code used to encrypt the file.
Encrypting a file ensures that even if someone gets access to your computer he/she would not be able to read the data stored there. Encrypted files can safely be sent by e-mail or placed on a network with the assurance that the data can be read only by those who were meant to have it.
Basic encryption systems have been used to protect secrets for many centuries. But today's encryption methods are far more sophisticated and reliable than ever before because the encryption code itself is a very complex computational transformation that is extremely difficult to crack even with all the latest equipment at your disposable.
I have used a better software called WinEncrypt CryptArchiver from www.WinEncrypt.com which has all these features in the free version, and also feature to encrypt USB drives, and create self-extracting encrypted .exe files. This is also a free version.

arun madan,
Rigndael algorithm is only current AES
By the way there are too much good open source softwares like true crypt are there, so why this commercial version?
In true crypt we can use about 10 algorithms including AES 256 and we can create "hidden volume" in which we can hide more sensitive information in case somebody retrieves the primary password.

This one is good but for simple security u can use "Hide files & folder".i m using it for a long and it's good enough to secure my files and above all the program hides itself also. u can't find it in "Add or remove programs" so nobody gets a hint about it.

dear here we r not talking about applying simple attribute to file to hide it, we r talking about organizational business security a complex algorithm of making passwords. TRY BESTCRYPT ITS FAAR BETTER THAN THIS SOFTWERE . FOR FOR ENCRYPTING PASSWORD BEST ALGORITHM IS AES METHOD.
Good info... The cost of full version is also good.. Another software which I had used which costs more & provides these features is DriveCrypt... But its more complex for new users... Will definitely try this one...Anyway for small data this Lite version seems OK for most...
