After having reviewed almost half a dozen Cowon players, I can safely say that one common trait that binds them all is high sound quality. Even its budget player retains the sound quality of its lifestyle model. The iAudio 7 that we have here is no exception. It's the looks and the features that give each Cowon player its identity. What's it that separates this model from its siblings? Let's find out.

The player sports simple and elegant looks - nothing strikingly appealing or off-putting about its appearance. This one has a combination of black matte and piano finish and a metallic red band along its perimeter. There's a 1.3" TFT-LCD screen on the face, along with a touch sensitive control pad on its right. The screen supports 160x128-pixel resolution and is capable of displaying 260K colors. The control pad has 4 buttons (Play/Pause, Record, and 2 arrows pointing in opposite directions) placed along the 4 corners of a square and a groove that runs diagonally, connecting the 2 arrow keys. If you aren't too fond of geometry, just check out the image below.

The Play/Pause button also acts as a Select button, while the Record button doubles up as a Back key. You can use the arrow keys to browse through the tracks or the menu. You can do that by either tapping the arrow keys or sliding your finger along the groove. The Power On/Off/Hold slider is located along the top edge of the player along with the Menu button and volume control. Thankfully, these keys aren't touch sensitive like the rest.

The iAudio 7 measures 35.6x76.1x19 mm (HxWxD) and weighs about 60 grams with the built-in Lithium Polymer rechargeable battery. The sample I received had 4GB of storage space. You also get an 8GB version.

I do not understand one thing??? Does an mp3 player have to be termed as ipod killer???? I mean dude....ipod is ipod and cowon is cowon. What does one mean by ipod killer....in sales or by features. At the end of the day, its playing music, displaying photos and showing movies!!!!!!
