Corsair is a top-runner in the high-performance memory products arena. This time we have with us a 1 GB flash drive with unique capabilities. But, for a change those unique capabilities don't stretch towards performance but instead provide more usability. Let's start off with the contents of the package.

Features

The Corsair Readout 1 GB is a first of its kind to be seen in the market. This pen-drive did feature in our future watch section about a couple of months back. It is surprising to see that this future watch product has reached our testlabs this early.

For starters, this pen-drive is a 1 GB capacity and offers 999 MB of formatted storage space (actual space.) This pen-drive has the unique capability to display the free amount of memory in the drive in figures and in the form of a pie-chart as well. The drive has a 4 digit display to notify the free space and a 11 alpha-numeric character label that you can change by renaming the drive. The drive's display works without the need of any batteries. It is basically a Bi-Stable Chlolesteric Display (BCD.) It will stay for almost a year without being attached to the PC or any power. The display changes whenever it is attached to the PC and the data is altered.

The drive is 78 x 21 x 12.9mm (L x W x H) in dimensions and is quite light to carry around. The build quality of the drive is questionable, with a creaky body. Also, the plastic above the display gathers a lot of scratches easily.

There is a flaw in the 10 year warranty. In case the chip get burnt out (which normally happens), bet you, they wont replace or repair the Pen Drive. I had a very bad experience with my Transcend 1GB Pen Drive.

Buying Corsair is like buying designer jeans, we all know levis invented them....but do designer jeans make us superman no...same with corsair...technology changes after every 6 months and what would one do with 10 year warranty?

by Roguegene, Bangalore, on Oct 05, 2006 05:40 PM, Report abuse   Reply

Not that I'm a fan of Cosair but, the 10 year warranty is a quality assurance of the performance by the Cosair Company, so since they offer 10 years warranty, its less likely to be faulty before that... for people who have the mone, they can afford the best of the best, but for average people, they can do the same job of carrying the data around with another flash for the fraction of the cost...so its upto you to decide which-ever you want

Warranty does not cover body damages, etc. As per the review, build quality is questionable. So what will you do with the 10 year warranty. And to take advantage of it, you have to place it in a Safe.
