I am looking at buying a digital camera with 9 mega pixel & aabove with 15x and above zoom. Buget is around Rs. 20,000. I have seen the details of Sony DSC-H50 & Nikon P80. Are they any others in this range and which one is the best. Honest feedbacks please

Canon S3 IS is good from the point of view of its fast response as opposed to Sony's H2. But the picture quality of Sony is sharper but suffers from Artifacts too. Canon surely wins hand down to Sony in the over all performance. If you want good qaulity pic better opt for Canon G7 or G9 because they have larger sensor i.e 1/1.8 or 1/1.7 respt. Sony H2/H5 or Canon S3 or S5 has sensor of 1/25 size. Thats the problem

I am about to buy a S3IS, but the new SX100 IS (not released yet) is very tempting as well. It(SX100) uses 2 time less space for the a movie with same resolution and fps shot with any other canon. Also it has 10x Optical Zoom. Plus it is compact, as small as A550/A570 etc. Screen size 2.5-3 inch. But the bad news is that, as usual, it will be some time before canon releases it in India. Even today (17th September 2007) canon is not providing S5 IS officially. So if u are willing to wait for about 2 - 5 months SX100 is for you!

My son gifted me power shot 75 A about 2.5 years back which went out of order 6 months. When given for repair it costed mor than Rs.5000/- Now again it went out of order.The camera was purchased online during his stay in U.S. Now i am not able to get it repaired because of exaubitant cost. Should i ever recommend any person to perchase any digital camera of canon.

Overall good camera, only problem is the servicing. The service centre here in Bangalore dont know a things about this camera. i got it 7 months ago and now the flash is not working. I give it to Malleswaram Canon service centre for repair. They are telling me to change Main PCB, which will cost me 12k.. So dont go for Canon if you plan to keep one camera for long and not to change frequently

At Rs. 30,000, is now available Sony H9 with much better specs. 8mp res, 15x zoom, auto flash pop up, movie length limited by card capacity and infra red assisted nigh vision. With canon already announcing S5IS, why would one buy S3IS not only dated camera but the one which might go out of production soon. No doubt though that S3IS was a good camera

this is no doubt a good camera..... but regarding someone arguing that sony does'nt make good digicams...i doubt his/her knowledge about the photography market as a whole...eos/d40 etc are slr camera and way too far beyond the price tag of a prosumer camera.....so this is insane to compare s3is with them also the direct competitor to s3is is sony dsc h2 available at a better price bundle and offer exactly the same specs(you can check dpreview)..... personally i've used both dsc h2 and s3is but dsc h2 impressed me more with the image quality and ease of use....the evf of s3is is so poor quality that its a shame... lastly...one should not give it to the brand name like sony or canon....its the specific camera that suits you is what counts......ardent fans of nikon and canon can go on shouting but that wont change the truth that there are better cameras which people will always miss blinded by the advertisement gimics and brand infatuation...

Canon Story in India:good products, bad service support. They provide 1 or max 2 years guarantee.The service support is pathetic especially in Delhi.So enjoy the product within the Guarantee period and dump it if something happens afterwards because either delayed service or overcharged without warranty for serviced parts, they are making morons of Indians.Stick with Panasonic or Sony with 3 year support,In prosumer check Panasonic Fz-50 or Sony HSC-9

S3IS is a great camera. Itis available for 15K in market. i dont understand why canon india is pricing 40% more than the product which is directly imported in bulk.Actually they are promoting grey/ direct bulk import market this way. As the product is very reliable , warantee peanut offered by canon india is not enough. Also good service centers are available in mumbai and other places.

Instead of this go for Panasonic Lumix FZ-50. I have both camera's S3IS and FZ50. FZ 50 is way better with manual controls, zoom, 10 MegaPixels and Image quality. It's very great camera with great zoom thats why it competes with entry level SLR's thourgh it is not SLR. Looks like SLR. Works like SLR. FZ 50 is the great camera for money. It is available at Rs.20000 in grey market. and aound Rs.25000 in white market.

Canon PowerShot S3IS Digital Camera review by Sudeep Naik is very nice and in Indian context S3IS still makes sense- being such a great bundle of features- at such a reasonable price today. I purchased mine from the US for $ 330- in Mid 2006- and it is now available at bargain price of $ 260?and a runaway seller even in US. In India this great digicam is available for about 15k on sifymall & even 14k in Mumbai open market & a great bargain. My S3IS never needed any service. Canon is charging too much for Indian market at 24k. While the movie mode with Stereo Sound in S3IS is the best of any digital cam ( I have sold my old Sony handycam-because now able to carry only one S3IS to handle digital movies & photos, Sudeep failed to mention that the S3IS movies are limited to 1 GB file size in one go & a 30FPS movie with stereo sound the limit of 1 GB is reached in 9 minutes ( with a 4 GB Card-I get 36 Min of great Movies-incidentally better to use a high speed cards for jerk free video ) . Two great things about the S3's movie mode are its stereo sound recording and the fact that you can zoom during filming. That ultrasonic lens motor allows you to zoom in and out silently, just like on a camcorder. I have no intention of shifting to S5IS anytime soon- because of the minor change of 2 mega pixel more & a 2.5inch view finder instead of S3IS 2 inch one which is excellent for me. This is a digicam worth buying for any picture taker/movie maker.
