A relatively fast external USB hard drive

Build, Features, Bundled software, Performance

A little expensive

The back of the DriveStation has the power switch, power mode switch (Manual/Auto), DC-in port, a DC-out port (which I will talk about later), a type-B USB 2.0 port, and a Kensington lock.

All the surfaces other than the front and back of the DriveStation have smartly placed grilles for proper airflow and cooling.

Buffalo has built the DriveStation chassis to allow stacking of multiple DriveStation units on top of each other. You can use the DC-out port to connect an external fan for extra cooling (if required).

The HD-HC250U2 houses a Western Digital 250GB 7,200rpm SATA (Serial ATA) hard disk. The drive comes pre-formatted and offers 232 GB of storage space.

So far, it seems like a regular branded external storage option. But the bundled software makes a tad different from the others. The DriveStation comes with Memeo AutoBackup Software, Secure Lock Ware, and TurboUSB.

Memeo AutoBackup Software

Memeo AutoBackup allows you to set up a backup plan for your drives. It looks, feels, and functions just like the AutoBackup software bundled with the Seagate FreeAgent Pro external drives. First, you've to select where you need to save the data. You can choose from hard drives, internet drives, network drives, flash drives, or even an iPod.
