True that the WWII genre has been overused in gaming. Game series like Medal of Honor and Call of Duty have produced more war-based games than anyone. Although the genre is practically dead to most gamers, a few bold developers are still producing WWII games. I always loved Medal of Honor and Call of Duty, but to be honest, my favorite WWII game came in the form of Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30. The game had a very "Saving Private Ryan" feel to it. What made BIA different was that it paid a lot of attention to the story -- not just historical facts. Matt Baker, the protagonist, was made so believable that you could feel what a WWII soldier had to go through. The third iteration of the game called Hell's Highway is on its way and due for release in August. Let me now run you through the basic of this unique WWII shooter.

Game Summary

The game follows Matt Baker and his 101st Airborne Division through a mission called "Operation Garden Market." This is an actual mission that took place in September 1944. In fact, one of the surviving members from the mission has helped in the development of the game.

The mission proved disastrous for the allies and led to heavy losses, and hence, it was called the Hell's Highway. An eponymous book was also published some time back. The game puts Sgt Matt Baker and his squad in the middle of this operation, and thus begins their journey through hell.
