Design and Construction:

All BlackBerry phones are cut out to give a professional appeal, including the Pearl 8120. It's dressed in grey at the front and back, along with metallic sides.

Most QWERTY phones we find today are broad in size, which make them a bit inconvenient to hold. But not this one; thanks to its SureType keyboard. The Pearl 8120's breadth is almost 20mm less than typical QWERTYs like the Nokia E61i or the Motorola Q9h.
This helps in bringing down the phone's size, thus making it very portable for a smart-phone. And to top it all, it's unbelievably light-weight too.

Dimensionally, it's a tad larger than the Sony Ericsson W810i.

The screen is square-shaped and has got good clarity. It's pretty bright too. The ambient light sensor lies on the top-right and changes the brightness according to external lighting conditions.

The keyboard "Sure" is unique

It has a total of 5x4 set of keys arranged in QWERTY form. One key holds two characters. The numeric part lies in the centre, thus dialing numbers is pretty convenient. Typing is achieved either by traditional multi-tapping or by the SureType Predictive text entry (which is similar to the T9 type). It learns new words that the user types and even supports word completion.

This hybrid form of key layout could be puzzling for users who are used to standard QWERTYs. The layout has a learning curve, but thanks to the good tactility of the keys, it can be gotten used to in a while. One will end up making typos to begin with. After typing on it for a week, I couldn't type as fast as I would generally on a standard QWERTY, but the speed was fast enough.

The usefulness of a BB device is achieved, when you use it with a BB data Plan. You have just reviewed the phone per se. Try using the E61 with BBC and BB data Plan and then using a BB device with BB data Plan. You will stop thinking why and whether you need to fork our the additional 10,000. BBC on Nokia is daft. It is actually retarded and only push mail works. Syncing of contacts, calendar , remote wipe, etc etc which is native to BB device is invisible from a Nokia with BBC.

how about the awesome email functionalities? how about the fact that RIM is ONE company that does give out frequent OS upgrades that you can download for free? And when you say you don't see the value of paying 10k for a better UI and easier navigation, I assume you have NEVER heard of this thing called the iPhone. Please use these devices for a while before writing such statements.
