Last week we had representatives from a company come over to give us a presentation on their latest product. About seven people from various departments in our company attended the presentation, so they wanted to use our projector with their laptops. But our projector was in use in the other conference room, so all of us had to lean into the 15" laptop screens and squint to figure out what was on it. They should have carried their own projector, but given the size of most of the models sold out here, I can understand if they consciously chose to leave it back in their office.



So here's the BenQ PB2250, a compact DLP projector that's small enough to be carried around and obviously lighter too. It is 23.8cm wide, 8.68cm high and 18cm long. Add to that a very portable 1.9kg of weight and you ve got yourself a mobile projection system when paired up with a laptop!



The PB2250 is an XGA-native (1024x768) projector that does a maximum of 1280x1024. The aspect ratio is obviously 4:3, but you can change that to widescreen if that's how the input is. It is also HD-ready, supporting 1080i, 720p, 576p and 480p input. It takes in regular RGB VGA D-Sub input from the PC, component video, S-Video, stereo audio (yeah, it has mono speakers!) and even USB. So you can connect your PC or laptop, a DVD player, PlayStation 2 or Xbox or whatever you want as long as its got one of those outputs.





There is no DVI input, so the PowerBook we connected to it had to be run through a DVI-to-D-Sub converter that I took from my graphics card (5700 Ultra). We had no trouble setting the projector up for use with the PowerBook. Just connected it, made it detect displays and it just showed up alright.





The projector is short-range so it throws fine between 1 and 10 meters. We tried it at 1.2m and the picture was sharp and fine. And it was bright! We had windowblinds on, but light from the other cubicles still made it into the cabin thru the glass wall, but the picture was still bright. That's 2000 ANSI lumens at work for you. Also the contrast ratio of 2000:1 goes a long way to keep the whites white and the blacks black. Since we put it on a straight table, the picture was perfectly in shape, but in case that doesn't work out for you, there's always digital keystone correction available.

Good to-the-point review. Not the kind of "we are the smartest" reviews with tons of useless information: just the essentials on how it behaves on regular daily useand what the projection looks like. For hose who want the nit-picks, just read the manual/brochure off Benq site.

If you are so uneducated about tech use about.com to get your fundas sorted out. Unless you know the basics how the hell would you ever think of buying a tecnology tool. Stay with a lens based OHP and transperencies
