Build & Design

The BOSE Computer MusicMonitor is a set of two speakers, which won't take you too long to setup. It will peacefully sit on any desktop and is easy to carry around and setup hardly takes a minute. The speakers are of aluminum build and look and feel very solid. The build quality is top-notch, and dropping a speaker on to the floor won't even put a scratch on these babies.

The face of each speaker is elegant to look at. Most of the face has a metal mesh with the BOSE logo. The right speaker is the main unit of the speaker system. This unit not only houses all the connectors (Power, Left Speaker, Input) behind it, but also has an LED hidden in front behind the metal mesh. The LED indicates power status and also blinks when it's reached min/max volume.

As always with BOSE, there are no exact specifications about the drivers utilized. Nonetheless, each unit has three drivers - one that fires in front, and the dual internal opposing passive radiators, which bounce lower frequencies against each other to deliver a decent bass. The drivers are neodymium, which enhances the output and clarity despite its small size. The dual internal opposing passive radiators sit in the rear end of the units and have enough breathing room to bounce the sound.

Remote Control

The Remote provided with the MusicMonitor is very basic and simple. There is nothing much to it, just a couple of buttons - Volume control and Power ON/OFF. I really wish a mute button had been provided though.

A very rich relative has purchased these from Delhi- ,more for show off- but one has to be crazy to spend 20k on these speakers, i think my Altec Lansing ATP-3 is much better & only 3k. Anyways the best computer 2.0 speakers i have heard are the M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Powered Speakers- just 8k and far far superior to these Ivy league Bose speakers.

I hope my relatives don't think I bought these merely to "show off." Honestly, I paid the premium price (for exceptionally good sound) mostly because of their minuscule size. I have searched and searched for speakers small enough to fit the space where I need to place them, and no others are even near this small with such a big sound.

Where did you buy the M-Audio AV 40 from. I have been trying to locate a source here but have not been successful

Frazier: This was an excellent review written by you. Its very honest and totally unbiased. Must say - you have surpassed Ameya dalvi in that skill :) Keep up the good work ! Being a speaker enthusiast, i'll certainly buy that gigaworks T20 someday, thanks to your adice.

I guess Mute button is really not required. ON / OFF switch should be sufficient for that purpose. If could turn it off completely if you want to put it on Mute. That way you end up saving precious energy. :)

...This comment is really outrageous and hillarious....like saying that cars dont really require brakes...the ignition key should suffice..that way one can end up saving precious (and expensive) fuel

ha ha ha... you guys crack me up!!! Although i have to agree that a mute switch is very different from an on/off switch, that "car without brakes" comparison was a little too much dont ya think?

Bang-on mate ... the mute button would have somehow the same function, that it does not produce any more sound. And to the even clearer analogy of the Brakes, please check the purpose of the ignition on an Automobile and for what the Brakes are used. In that sense even these speakers have the brakes and accelerators with the volume up and down buttons.

You can get a Altec Lansing MX5021 THX Certified system for 6.5K, rather then spending for such expensive product. The Remote on MX5021 has all the controls for terible, bass, volume & suspend/on-off.

Please check spellings before posting a review. It is "BASS" and not "BASE" which means low frequency sound. throughout this review it is spelled "base" !!
