Apple iPod Nano was introduced on September 7, 2005, replacing the iPod mini, which was discontinued on the same day. It is considered as a hybrid of iPod Shuffle and iPod Mini. By looks, it was one of the classiest players with no competitor near-by. It was one of the fastest selling iPod claiming record sales of 1 million in just 17 days. However, the iPod Nano was so scratch prone, that even a micro fiber cloth could cause damage to it. In some cases, the screen was known to crack under pressure. Apple did confirm that a small percent of iPod Nanos did ship with a faulty screen and agreed to replace any Nanos with cracked screens, but denied that the iPod Nano was more susceptible to scratching than prior iPods.

Second Generation iPod Nano

On September 12, 2006, Apple updated the Nano line. The new second-generation or "2G" Nano features a scratch-resistant, brushed aluminum casing staying true to the earlier iPod Mini's styling. The color options, featuring five colors (silver, blue, green, pink, and black), mirror that of the mini as well. The second-generation Nano features "a brighter, more vibrant display", a battery life upgrade from 14 to 24 hours, and doubled capacity. They are available in capacities of 2, 4 and 8 GB. The new iPod Nanos also support gapless playback of audio files, a new search option, and a 40% brighter screen. As of today, the one gigabyte model has been discontinued and been replaced with the second-generation iPod Shuffle.

The 2 GB model is available only in silver, the 4 GB is available in silver, blue, green, pink and the limited edition red, and the black color is exclusive only to the 8 GB model.

With a dimension of just 3.5 x 1.6 x 0.26 inches and weighing just 40 grams, it is one of the lightest and sleekest players in its class. In fact, it even rivals out some of the thumb stick based MP3 players. The iPod Nano uses flash memory instead of a hard disk. As a result, it has no significant moving parts (excluding the click wheel), making it immune to skipping and far more durable than disk-based players. The iPod Nano has a screen size of 1.5 inches (38 mm) diagonal, supports a resolution of 176 x 132 pixels, and can display 65,536 colors (16-bit color). It has a touch sensitive wheel, which is known as click wheel. The click wheel is used for navigation, increase/decrease volume, time skip and for playing games. It has four buttons integrated in the click wheel in the four directions. The Click Wheel is certainly one of the best innovative feature of the iPod lines and makes it stand apart from the crowd. This wheel works even if there is a small layer of cloth or rubber on it. This way I can still control my iPod Nano, even though it is in my jean's pocket. Can any other player do that?

Like the previous Nano, it has the dock connection and the stereo audio output plug at the bottom of the player and Hold slider is on the top. It charges through either the USB connector or a separately purchased charger. It takes 1.5 hours to charge 80% of the player's capacity and 3 hours to charge the built-in lithium ion battery. It sports a new earphone design and even the quality of the earphone has changed. More on that later.

no problemo! just press and hold the Menu and the center key for about 10 secs and then qucikly leave then and press and hold the pause and the middle key for 20 sescs..U'll see the IPOD in the disc mode..then just press and hold the Menu key, its done, shud be back to normal.

to be honest i cant help feeling the i pod phenomena is very over rated they collect collect premium pricing 4 us pack in their pack the bare minium(not even a cd with their propratiry music player) pack in junk ear phones forcing us to perchase a few paie of headsets 4 as much a 5000bucks. and have all shorts of sharing issues.i say thay r just playing hard ball with is and i find no reason not to buy a sony walkman phone and put my 13k to some gud use ps. 4 those of u wineing abt the memory difference in the 2 tell me do u really need 2 carry ur library of 4000+ songs around the town with u?

Hi Guys, I wonder what this Suntronix place is that repairs IPods. I have an Ipod that's gone dead and no Apple Service Centre will repair it because they don't know how to repair a hardware problem in an IPod, since they don't know how to open it. Does Suntronix repair hardware problems or can anyone tell me who in India does?

well, am sure suntronix will be able to do it. Coz i had a out of warranty ipod do & got it fixed from them. They took about 3 dyas time but fixed it it well in the end & am happy.

I bought my 2nd gen nano about 7 or 8 months ago, and I am one hell of a demanding user! the places I go, the volume I play the amount of memory I use is intoxicating for any gadget. And I can testify that the nano is up for my challenge any time! I've dropped it at every possible angles more times then I can count, I've used it with wet hands, I've blasted it a full volume, I've used it as a USB, I've filled it with musictil I maxed out, i've filled it with more pictures than I could possibly need, I've brought it every, stuffed it into pockets bags, and you name it, today my nano still lives, works perfectly fine, only problem is my dock socket got tight from droppin so pluging is a challenge at time and it's case is all gashed up, BUT the screen is almost perfect! I love the nano. if only I could have an 8GB in pink too then I'd have had a dream come true! the nano is a Godsend! love it! and for P11,500 it's perfect!

I have a 30GB Video Ipod, there used to be an intermittent detection problem by my PC, now my PC does not detect it. I tried it on other PC's and with other cables, but does not help. As i had deleted all songs and was to reload them all, am unable to use it presently, Can you please guide me to service centre in Mumbai, thnks & rgds

I got IPOD nano 2nd Gen. 4GB, Its definately a marvel of modern engineering,execellent sound quality,scroll wheel very convinient,I tunes is superb,bright screen,great battery life(about 7-8 hrs. in real life use not 24 hrs. ilke they advertise) great for Joggers.. i've been using for the past 3months(it's tough allright). Only downsides are.. bit expensive and no volume control on heaphones...otherwise an extremely desirable device..should be on everyone's must have list.

Shucks! why should I pay that amount when I can get better features and better sound quality, performance, looks and battery life from another brand. man.. iv got the newest ipod video and trust me the headphone quality has sure not improved. Previously i even had an ipod photo so i can tell , iv got both headphones to compare an also the headphones still lack quality output by miles.. and frankly my nokia headphones (with 6270) have a much better output an sound quality.. suprisingly their bass output is also better than the ipod headphones..

I personally own a iPod Video 60GB. I always had to keep the EQ settings to Reduce Bass for removing the cracking noise. Well, we got three iPod Nanos for testing, and all three of them featured the new earphones. I found the sound quality better and no need to change any EQ settings.

Why don't you a iHeadPhone for about 5000 bucks which can be found at a iStore near you and it's a official ipod accessory (so it must be cool). Honestly this whole iPod thing is so overrated. Good for apple though.

DAP prices are simply too high in India compared to overseas markets. I got a Creative Zen Vision 30Gigs from US and it costs me RS.11500 and it beats iPod feature list 5:1 and I dont need any software besides windows and if your are so organized, Windows Media. I can tune into FM, use it as Voice Recorder. But agreed that the slider control is not as slick as iPod wheel. but man, iPods are simply overpriced. If you go by your head and not your heart, iPods are hard justified buy.
