Apacer Audio Steno BP 300

Apacer Audio Steno BP 300

The Audio Steno BP300 is a compact MP3 player cum voice recorder cum flash drive.

Compact, Multifunctional, Excellent headphones

Expensive

The Apacer Audio Steno BP300 is a compact device that can be used to play MP3s and record voice. It also doubles up as a USB flash drive.

My Precious...
MP3 players are always a hot item at Techtree. Everybody wants to review them, because reviewing one is as tough a job as being a food critic. I exhibited the most amount of zealous enthusiasm for this MP3 player, which dissuaded the rest of my co-workers from summoning as much as a weak protest. So, after subjecting this hard fought for MP3 player to some thorough listening over the weekend, let me tell you all about it.

The Audio Steno BP300 is a compact MP3 player cum voice recorder cum flash drive that can connect to your USB port. At dimensions of 9 x 3.5 x 2.5 cm, it's compact enough to fit into your pocket, or to be strung like a keychain. It has a generous 128 MB of flash memory, and is automatically detected in Windows Me, 2000 and XP.

The package came with the Player, a separate USB cable, earphones, AAA battery, neck strap, Software CD, user manual, and a choice of 3 differently coloured USB caps. To get this thing started, all you need to do is plug it into your USB port, and copy music onto it, and press play. It's very easy to use, you can copy any kind of file onto it if you want to copy it from one PC to another, and USB 1.1 compliance (1.2 MBps) ensures that it is quick at file transfer.

It supports both MP3 and WMA formats. I was able to fit in 34 assorted tracks encoded at 128 Kbps into the 128-bit memory slot. You could encode at 64 Kbps in the WMA format to squeeze more music in, but seriously, don't. The headphones deserve better quality music. You can choose from 4 different equalizer modes, Jazz, Classic, Pop, and Rock. It has a blue backlit LCD display, which displays the file and track name, equaliser setting, battery status, and track timings in (mm:ss) format.

I like the layout of the buttons, as it's pretty intuitive and easily accessible. The buttons are very handy, and the menu system is perky and quick to operate. Since the buttons are extra sensitive and might accidentally be pressed, they have a keylock toggle, which lets you tuck the MP3 player in the tightest of jeans. It's also a dictaphone. At the discrete touch of a button, you can start recording in wav mono format at 16.0 KHz or 44.1 KHz.

Headphones
It's sad that they've not advertised the headphones on the packaging, because they're so damn good. They look pretty unassuming, maybe even a little dorky, but seriously, these are the most comfortable headphones ever. Extremely light, easy on the ears, no fatigue whatsoever. Anyone who uses headphones for a long amount of time knows how much ear fatigue they can give you. These headphones are pretty loud, incredibly clear, and easy on your ears.

The package advertises 12 hours of play on a single AAA alkaline battery, though in my experience, it survived for 8 on a Duracell Plus. It gave me just about 2 hours of standup time on an EverReady battery. Well, I do play my music pretty loud. Get a AAA battery charger and some rechargables when you buy this product, unless you want to have a daily battery habit.

Price plz
The Apacer Audio Steno BP 300 is a cool looking thing to have, easy to use, spacious, multifunctional, and lastly… priced at an MRP of Rs. 8,990/-. If you compare the prices with other MP3 players in the market, it seems like a good deal, though you can get a similar MP3 player for cheaper from abroad.

Another 350 Bucks for an add-on for this stuff? Give me a break.... I'd rather go for a Samsung, Panasonic or Creative. They have MP3 players which have battery stick compatible one's. And believe me, I am hearing this brand name for the first time. So why waste money on it? No, I aint satisfied. But let me make myself clear. I am not posting comments here to discourage people from looking into the product.... I was just sharing my thoughts. No worries.... Cheers, Praveen.

Rs 8990! I'd rather listen to FM radio, all 6 channels of it, on my 100 buck FM player. It's cheap, it's chinese, and it's deliverance for the poverty-stricken. C'mon dudes, get real! 9000 bucks for a bloody MP player?

hey u forgot to mention ur divine chinese ear phones that u musta got with ur FM gizmo. wonder why the garib janta is spending their precious bucks on surfing the net and posting crap. better surf job sites. accept it dude, digital technology is not for you.

krazy dude is an ass. we garib janta surf the net and post comments from office where internet time is free. digi tech should be affordable for all, only then it makes sense.

Agree with Sunil & Praveen. Digital or otherwise, technology should bring down the prices. Also battery consumption!!! ugh!!!,

by Pal, Delhi, on Aug 13, 2003 01:46 AM, Report abuse

Not satisfied... Gives a poor battery life, and the price is too high for a stuff like this one. Naah.... hands off... Cheers, Praveen.

AAA rechargables with the power socket can be purchased for 350 bux. As for the price, It's pretty much how the market is as of now, you can't get it for cheaper unless you have an ungle abroad.
