Today, we have for review the AHP-512 headphones from Altec Lansing
Good overall sound quality, Excellent bass, Ergonomic design, Long cable, Volume control
Highs are a little weak, Slightly expensive
A few weeks back we had reviewed the AHS-602 SRS headset from Altec Lansing. It boasted of features like SRS surround, a high quality microphone and a few others. Yes, it did have all that, but it fell short where it mattered most, the sound quality. Today, we have for review the AHP-512 headphones from the same company. This model has none of the extravagant features mentioned above. All it tries to do is stick to the basics and concentrate on sound quality. Whether it succeeds, we will soon find out.
For starters, these headphones have the typical Altec Lansing headphones/headset looks with the usual mix of black and metallic grey. If you take the microphone out of the AHS-602 and replace the SRS control unit with a simple volume control, they would look exactly like this one. The build quality is pretty solid and the padded ear-cups are extremely comfortable for prolonged usage. The 40 mm Neodymium drivers are capable of reproducing the entire audio frequency spectrum ranging between 20 Hz to 20 KHz.
The headphones' whopping eight-foot long cable lets you connect it to any stereo source and at the same time gives you reasonable freedom of movement. Due to the long cable, these can also be used with a PC and at the same time will let you maintain a safe distance from your monitor screen. If the long cable gives you a feeling of discomfort, you can use a twisty to cut down on the length of the cable and make use of the belt clip present on the volume control module.
