Promises better battery life and performance
Acer has launched a slew or notebooks in India out of which we have two of their latest models, the Aspire 4736z and the Aspire 5738. Today we review the Aspire 5738, which resembles the Aspire 6930 notebook. You can look at this one as a replacement for the 6930 with a much better keyboard and slimmer look. The configuration has been tweaked, with Acer now adopting DDR3 memory in their notebooks for a boost in system performance. This seems like a worthy upgrade from the specifications, so let's go ahead and see what other changes Acer has made.

i've recently bought acer 5738 with T6600(2.2Ghz) and 4 GB RAM. I've loaded XP but my finger print reader is not working and lappi is not as fast as it should be for this size of RAM. 16:9 aspect ratio of the screen is not of any big use as movies are not utilising that extra space. can any body help and sound o/p while i play DVDs is only 30% as compared to mp3 or VCD. Pl help

I love to get this laptop because of the specs and the price point. How good is ACERs after sales record. I am not a big fan of the looks but I could live with it. i am going to scrap vista if i buy this lappy. I think that has alot to do with less than optimal system performance. Im into linux (Ubuntu) and I think its a good match with his laptop.

good config, can anyone please give me Rajkot address

All the specifications here are of the Acer Aspire 5738 model and not the 5738 Z (with the extra 'z') as mentioned here. I checked the specs from the acer website. Please correct me if I am wrong here. Other than that, this was a very helpful review.

Hi Kush, thanks for pointing that out. At the time of the review Acer didnt have the 5738 on their site so I asumed it was the 5738z. Anyways got it rectified. Thanks.

Hi Kush, thanks for pointing that out. Actually at the time of the review Acer didn't have their site updated so I assumed it was the 'z'. Got that fixed. Thanks.

Acer Aspire 5738z stands apart as compared to Dell Inspiron 15 series, the fresh and futuristic technology in Acer Aspire 5738z, 4736z,4736,5738,5738G are; 1. DDR 3 RAM ,2.High Defination Screen,3. Dolby Digital (3rd generation),4. Multi gesture Touch Pad,5. A look you cannot miss to aspire,6. One touch Backup 7. One touch Power Saving feature Kindly look for this in any competition model, Above all acer provides you value for your money.

Well after sitting hours at my computer and doing research I found that the spot for the ultimate blend of official and gaming use and also as the best desktop replacement at this price range has definitely been taken by Acer Aspire 5738G. All other laptops do not match the specs or price. If you want proof go to Dell site and create ur own lappie with the same configuration and see it fly past 50k ; ) The best other option is 5738z. If at all I get one I'll definitely be the first to post my replies on how it is. Dell as of now is plain costly, said cheap on paper(read or site page), of course we see the usual starting at Rs. XXX and then the * but then how many years are we going to take to realize that always the immediate price shown in the face will be for a S#*tty configuration, and the actual souped up one so called MEETING our needs will be at a price tag which not only empties your wallet, but removes your pants too... When u buy also be very specific when u mention the model number and check if any accessories offered.

READERS are advised to READ ENTIRE REVIEW, or if only worried about certain aspects, click on the DROP DOWN MENU and go directly to that page, eg: Specifications/Price, Build and Quality, Performance, etc before asking questions that make the reader look DUMB or the reviewer wonder if he made a mistake or the reader is plain BLIND!!! other than being dumb, retarded, etc... ; ) Sorry meant for all readers who ask questions without reading... (FOR THOSE WHO DON'T LOOK BEFORE THEY LEAP)

I had inquired about this laptop in Chennai, but they said the price is without OS With Vista it comes up to INR 36500/- Now that is a bit disappointing... It would be good if Acer 5738Z is available for 33500/-(with OS) and 5738G for 35000/-(with OS) I would immediately buy it... Another thing I notice is that sometimes there are huge numbers given for processing stuff but then sometimes not physically supported by the hardware, this too should be given an honest poke at by reviewers, as people are often fooled into seeing being numbers which actually cannot be used.. (read like usage of more than 3.25 GB ram etc by the OS and stuff... Or the workarounds should be explained... Hope this helps... High Specs and stuff should match true usability as compared to being just specs for eyewash. Some techies could give an eyeopener to people without this knowledge in reviews to make things be right out there in the open and helping people make wise choices... and no biased opinions please..

low resolution screen ???? no explanation is provided on how low... will this not give a good movie viewing experience? also will the 'g' version improve on that?
