People are now opting for small computers instead of the traditional computer, which takes a lot of space. The SFF (Small Form Factor) PC market is still relatively new and hence many players have joined the race.

AOpen started making SFF PCs around a year ago and they are well known for stability and performance. The AOpen XC Cube Sporty EX65, which is on review today, is based on Intel Springdale i865 Chipset. This SFF PC not only packs in everything that the Shuttle SB61G2 had to offer such as USB 2.0, SATA, 6-channel sound card, SPDIF IO, IEEE 1394 (FireWire) etc., but also offers TV Out, Gigabit LAN connector and even a Parallel port for connecting old printers.

This SFF system has a black cabinet with an aluminum front grill that makes it look quite showy. In terms of size, it is just an inch longer than the Shuttle SB61G2, while the height and width are similar.

The AOpen XC Cube Sporty has cables tailor-made to fit this cabinet. The Shuttle SB61G2 offered some sort of flexibility in terms of connecting the cables, which the AOpen counterpart doesn't. You can only fit components exactly where they were supposed to be fitted.

The XC Cube Sporty has a more powerful SMPS than the Shuttle, ensuring that it powers all the hardware components sufficiently.

People are now opting for small computers instead of the traditional computer, which takes a lot of space.thats true but this reviewe is bull shit. this thing looks like crap. we rather prefer our big cabinet rather than this1. as 4 small CPUs try reviewing IBMs new range of slim PCs(almost the size of an XBOX) much more stylish and better in perfomance than this 1.

Recently I was in Dubai. I priced a similar Shuttle system with Athlon64 2800 + 2 gb DDR 400 Dual Channel Ram, 120 GB HDD, 17 " LCD MMC Monitor, 128mb nVidia graphic card, Combo DVD Rewriter + wireless keyboard & mouse. The total amounted to Dh. 4,000/= (about Rs. 54,000) Add to it the Air fare Rs. 15k to 16k. You will still come out faaaaaar ahead. Remember PCs & Notebooks are now 100 % DUTY FREE. Above all you can play music, FM radio, Video disk or plain old TV without turning on the PC , all with the remote control.

No offense, but with only 128 MB ram and onboard graphics cannot be labeled a gaming machine with any stretch of imagination. A cheap Intel Celeron 2.0 with 256 MB ram and a Geforce Fx 5200 will easily outperform this machine.

Instead of buying a barebone for 65,000/- one should go for notebook.

by Hrishikesh Dhaw, Pune, on Oct 28, 2004 12:19 AM, Report abuse   Reply

Are you guys crazy? Rs.65000 for a barebone? Being idle should have made you go nuts! Employ a proof reader, ha ha.
