iPhone to Support Corporate Email

iPhone to Support Corporate Email

Techtree News Staff, Mar 07, 2008 1554 hrs IST

With support for corporate email, iPhone users will be able to connect it out-of-the-box to Microsoft Exchange Servers 2003 and 2007.

Apple's iPhone will soon start supporting corporate email with Microsoft Exchange; in doing so, competing with smart phone majors, Research in Motion (RIM) and Nokia.

With support for corporate email, iPhone users will be able to connect it out-of-the-box to Microsoft Exchange Servers 2003 and 2007 for secure push email, contacts, calendars, and global address lists.

The built-in Exchange ActiveSync support will enable security features such as remote wipe, password policies, and auto-discovery. Users will also be able to use Exchange as an email option on their iPhones. Apple will build software for easy configuration of the iPhone to the Exchange server.

It is learnt that until now, business users have stayed away from the iPhone because of its inability to work well with corporate email systems.

However now, with support for business email, Apple is expecting to attract a chunk of business customers as well. The company believes the move will help it achieve its goal of selling 10 million iPhones by the end of this year.

Support for Microsoft Exchange will be available with the iPhone 2.0 free software update, which is expected to be released by the end of June.

Additionally, Apple has rolled out the software development kit (SDK) allowing third-party developers to create software for their iPhone, as also introduced a way to sell the downloadable software through iTunes.
