Apple has finally unveiled a bunch of much needed features for iPhone with its iPhone OS 3.0 update. Though the iPhone OS 3.0 update will be publicly available in summer for free to iPhone users and for $10 (Rs. 500 approx.) to iPod Touch owners.

Apple boasted of about 100 features in the preview of the upcoming iPhone OS 3.0 update for iPhone and iPod Touch devices. However, along with the dazzling number of features included on the iPhone OS 3.0 update, a lot of features were forgotten too.

Techtree compiles a list of hits and misses for you.

Hit 1: Cut -Copy -Paste

Rejoice!! This function was the most requested and heavily ranted since the launch of iPhone. Kevin Rose's prediction of Cut-Copy-Paste was true. Activated by double-tapping the screen, the respective text needs to be highlighted first. Markers for extending the text selection makes easy to extend the selection boundary and the cut-copied text can be dragged across all applications (provided developers add support).

Apart from that, in Safari, even the HTML can be copied and in order to undo the paste action simply shake the device. In mail, users will able to add multiple photos in same way text is selected. Select multiple photos and paste them in the mail.

Finally, the nightmare of geeks and the dream feature of fan boys will arrive with iPhone OS 3.0 update.

Big deal... these are all items that should have been included with incremental upgrades. Maybe they needed a package to make the 3GS appeal to the masses compared to other phones. That's a valid concept, but many of these features are a day late and a dollar short. I

I'm glad that SMS (text messaging) now includes landscape typing mode along with text-forwarding (finally!), and also the ability to delete individual messages in a chat thread. However, a ‘resend’ button when texting would be nice as well.

uh havent we missed that iphones new sdk will enable better apps and hardware sync possibilities? i think that is very good for the future... i mean the hardware sync features are new and i think that this is wht the future is all abt! and a new way of using cellphones. samsung launches a pico projector phone and everyones gaga... but i think all the customization can be done by a good software and i think thats wht apple has done here... we should definitely appreciate that.

"Apple tested a popular AIM client with the background processing function and found 80 percent loss in battery life. " This was tested not on an iPhone, but on WinMobiles and Androids.
