Vodafone has revealed the official price of the iPhone 3G. You are not going to like it
EDIT: Now that we know that the iPhone 3G is priced above Rs. 30,000, would you buy one? Let us know by taking the poll on the Techtree.com homepage.
Well, it's finally official. Vodafone has just revealed its iPhone pricing: "The iPhone 3G is available in 8GB and 16GB at Rs 31,000 and Rs 36,100 respectively". If you were one of those that pre-ordered the phone, you will now need to head to your nearest Vodafone Store and book your pre-booking for a princely sum of Rs. 10,000. "Remember, the sooner you confirm your booking, the earlier you'll get your iPhone", the website states, further revealing: "We have limited stocks and it will be on first come, first serve basis." Great. Gives a new meaning to pre-ordering.

The Indian market has no 3G service. So, stop false advertising of iPhone 3G. Nokia phones have had 3G capability from longer ago! Nokia launched their first 3G phone, the Nokia 6650, in 2002. That year 2002, they also launched their first phone with a built-in camera, the Nokia 7650, and the first video capture phone, the Nokia 3650. iPhone is no big deal!

FM radio is another feature iphone lacks for india. the cost is fine if they give unlocked phone to use with any service provider. if they want us to buy iphone and stay with airtel or vodafone they should drop price. my previous iphone seller offering me HTC diamond instead of iphone 3G. just saw one iphone review on indian tv channel. one user asked if i buy iphone in india locked with airtel and if later i go to USA , how should i use iphone 3g ? airtel person said use airtel roaming in usa. lol airtel and vodafone saying the cost is decided by apple and they are not earning. i heard airtel and vodafone had paid fake customers to stand in queue during iphone launch. lol advertising iphone 3G in india ?? we dont have 3G yet, drop prices as we are not using 3g features. haha
by vin, mum, on Aug 28, 2008 08:52 PM, Report abuse Reply
i dont think so apple airtel and vodafone are fools . they both launch at the same price .india doesnot have 3g yet and ii dont think old and new 3g iphone has much difference except for 3g in new. well when 3g will launch in india then they wil surely down the price. there is also one more reason howmany middle class indians will use 3g services ,we indians not use the gsm services as they still not cheap. So i dont think that 3g will be a big explode picture in india . Also in how many cities it wil be available ,It wil be available in metros and to come to small cities it will almost take 5 to 6 years.

How good is the iPhone 3G when there is no 3G network in the country so Some INDIAN FOOLS, you are paying for iphone 3G, now ask airtel/vodafone/indian telecom ministry how do i send and receive video calls, watch live TV, access the high speed internet, receive emails and download music tracks as effective as it is shown in ads.

Its similer to what happened when iphone launched in US in 2007, it was ~500$, then suddenly apple realize, they are making mistake and reduces prices to almost half and return 100$ for everyone who purchansed iphone for 500$. Now airtel and Vodafone going to do that same thing (reducing prices heavily), but i am sure they are not gonnna return money back because they know that indian public is bunchl of fools anyway iphone is a great product but not worth 750$
by Tej Parkash, Chennai, on Aug 24, 2008 05:07 PM, Report abuse Reply
Its so costly!! not for middle class. after 4 or 5 month its sure it will go down to Rs 20,000/-.

its ok it will go down the price, but why they charge too much, nobody is in India to stop such things, when main company(Apple) was decided to keep price in all country will be same. I am waiting from last one year man....this is bull shit

that reallly changes everything......if anyone saw the WWDC or the World Wide Developers Conference, they might have realised how much Steve Jobs was harping about the price of the iPhone 3g being a maximum of $200 everywhere in the world..... seeing all this......no one is going to be stupid enough to miss out on a Blackberry and go for a phone that doesnt have the features of most of the cheapest phones....

Just like other comments, iphone 3g is the biggest loot by corporates of the year.I guess, i'll buy a lot more better phone from nokia with less prices than this. I expect this price will drop by year end, but will be too little, too late as nokia is also releasing their touch-based phone by then

i-Phone is not at all given an attractive price in India.People will think thrice before going for it.Especially due to Nokia N-95 & 96,it will have to face a lot of competition.Atleast,I would never even think of buying it!!!!!

I really dont understand what strategy, Vodafone and Airtel are following to market iPhone in India with such High Prices...Are these companies trying to lure the people jus to cash in on the Craze and later lower the prices...???Am totally confused.....Something to cheer about for Nokia, Samsung, HTC, Sony Ericsson.
by Swarup Sagi, Bangalore, on Aug 21, 2008 02:51 PM, Report abuse Reply
You are correct!! The same happened when iPhone was launched first time. After few days the price keep decreasing to survive the competition. It is general strategy to encash the brand name and craze for the gadget. The prices are higher when launched as enthusiastic buyer will try to get it at the earliest without caring for price or feature. Than slowly the price is lowered to catch people who wanted the phone but were concerned about steep price. After some time it lowered to compete with other products in market to survive the market.

iPhone is great gadget and is must have for Gadget lovers. The only thing is that, would you like to pay for the Gadgets whose most feature can not be used in India for next 1 year. Some people will agree and other may not. It is like having Mercedes or Ducati (Bike) for the great engine power, which you will not be able to use on Indian roads. So it's your choice!! Would like to flaunt yourself and be one of few member's Elite Club (Legal iPhone club) by paying that money. Its matter of taste and does not necessarily is related with the actual uses or any logical/practical explanation for the purchase of luxury.
by Akhil, Delhi, on Aug 21, 2008 03:29 AM, Report abuse Reply
Make no mistake, It is rank stupidity to buy something that the world knows is overpriced. Those who don't understand the value of money will be taken for a ride and they deserve it. I'll teach you an American phrase "There's a sucker born every minute" WELCOME TO THE SUCKER's CLUB Dude!!!

May be apple is not looking at volumes in India, one of the biggest expanding mobile markets. they only want to position it as ultra luxury phone (its price is making it ultra luxury when you compare with the features it has)..I would rather bug N96/95, Omnia or X1

I think iPhone will be launched for 27,000 and not above it. 27 has been a kind of magical figure for many high end phones even from the likes of sony ericsson, though they reduce it later.

iPhone seems to be a good multimedia device which can play videos on 3.5" screen, sync with Itunes, show photos in a better manner than actual sprinted photos, use accelerometer for playing games but as far as phone part of iPhone is concerned its bullshit. You can't even forward the SMS leave alone no MMS handling. Better spend your money on Nokia N96 where only disavantage I see is relatively smaller screen size

one more bad news for all u guys dese prices do not inlcude cost of data plans for more info abt data plans have look at following news More abuse news for iPhone lovers as Vodafone released the plans which include voice as well as data. For a new postpaid user, there are three plan options - iPhone 499 (Rs. 499), iPhone 799 (Rs. 799) and iPhone 999 (Rs. 999). On the calling front, these plans will have free 199, 249 and 299 minutes (local & STD) respectively. All local calls go at 60 paise flat while STD at Re. 1. SMS charges are 1/2/5 (local/national/international). Heavy internet users will be disappointed because there is no unlimited data plan to go for. The free data usage per month for these plans is 50MB, 250MB and 600MB. For existing Vodafone customers, you can add a data pack which has the options of Rs. 199 giving 50MB free, Rs. 499 (250MB) and Rs. 699 with 600MB. Prepaid users need to buy a data bonus card which will cost Rs. 100 with no free usage. 5 paise per 10kb for additional data transfer. in short JUST DONT BUY IPHONE..........!!!!! apple i phone 8 gb for 31000 or nokia n95 8gb for 25000 (yes nokia has rightfully dropped the price of it's elite phone) . the advantages that nokia n 95 has over i phone are 1. graet on board sound 2. 5 mp camera with auto focus and video recording 3. tv out functionality 4. video calls are possible 5. bluetooth is not confined to be used with headsets only and ha A2DP 6. it's browser suports flash files so friends it for you to decide where to put in your hard earned money .

Its because of too much hype. Airtel & vodafone think everyone's dying to get their hands on the iphone and people will pay whatever they quote. The price is goin to cum down for sure if people just dont buy the iphone for sometime it'll get airtel and vodafone back to their senses. It doesn't matter even if u can afford it but why should we pay 3 times more. If u really want it real bad import it.

We were guessing that the Iphone3g 8gb would b priced around 21k to 24k at max, because We are in india will not b able to use most of the title features of The iphone3G. This Phone is not just a hype but its a gr8 revolution in mobile world. but still no one wants to pay Rs.31k or 36k just to possess their waiting for long one. I'm sure that so many are still confuse to buy or not.many can pay & buy at this rate but they may nt want to b fool as after few days some friend may show them same at cheaper rate. better to be wait & watch if you really love & want one.

Brrrrrrr!!! iPhone is going to be flop as soon as it is lauched, because first thing is price and second thing is 3G service in India. The other co's like NOKIA, HTC are offering good services and price that any average person can afford. Iam sure it will flop and price will automatically get down after few days.

Friends .....those of you in India planning for iPhone... THINK TWICE BEFORE MAKING A DECISION... The short comings of iPhone are endless... No video calling, no AD2P on the Bluetooth, CAN'T share ANY (mp3, images,videos....) files via bluetooth, can't use as a wireless modem, (you pay ridiculous data charges to activate internet on your phone, but cannot connect it to your PC and browse when you are at home) no copy and paste,(cannot copy a part of a.... say.... email & send it....have to type it out yourself) no 3.2 or 5 megapixel camera,(the 2MP camera it carries is worst camera i've ever seen..... photos look like they have come out of a VGA camera) no video recording with camera, no front camera, no flash. no JAVA support No physical keyboard (BELIEVE me! this alone is a dealbreaker...touch keyboard as good as it looks...once you use it then only you come to know about the importance of having a hard keypad) No 3G network yet in India..so why pay for expensive 3G phone if you cant use its 3G services ... so, for India, iPhone 2.0 is no better than its first version No removable battery. (You cannot change battery. Have to send it to apple outlet.. Come on now!!!!...This is not an iPod. Its a bloody phone. You cannot live without phone for 2-3 days) No haptic feedback and cannot send MMS, can't use as external storage device (16 GB of utter waste..next time you go to your friend's house & find some interesting songs, movies, etc...sorry you cannot connect your '16 GB' phone and share it!!!! Apple apparently has a solution.. " BUY MUSIC & MOVIES FROM iTUNES STORE "..... Give me a break will you APPLE!!!) no FM radio, can't use your mp3 files as ringtones,(This is heights man!!!) cannot insert any other SIM card?. completely tied to iTunes... Connect to your friend's iTunes & you risk erasing everything on your phone. list goes on & on & on?. We Indians are used to these features. Most of our phones already have these features. & we cannot do with out them.... i mean can you imagine paying so much for a phone with which you cannot transfer files via bluetooth. what age is this ...STONE AGE??? Some features may be activated by jailbreak.. But why the hell should you risk losing your warranty after paying so much. And want to add third party softwares??.. YOU HAVE TO BUY THEM FROM iTUNES STORE ONLY!!! . (Shell out more money). Apple is a bloody control freak. Dont surrender your freedom to it. Its good for american market (who have no idea what mobile freedom/choice is) which is in stone age compared to asian/european markets. When they want to buy a phone, they have to go to network operators and buy only those phones that are available on that network. & stick to that company till their contract expires. You want to change carriers? Not before paying damages, & buying another phone on the other network again. On the contrary, we in India have so much freedom. We go to handset shops & buy which ever phone we like. Then go to carriers.. checkout the plans & buy SIM.. Dont like the plan or rival carrier came up with a better plan???? EASY .. just remove & replace the SIM. Apple are trying to IMPOSE THEIR MODEL ON US riding on the hype iPhone has created in the US (yes it was a flop in Europe ..thats why Apple never talks about its sales in Europe). Dont fall for the subsidized price of iPhone... CHECKOUT THE DATA PLAN ATTACHED TO ITS SIM ..they will recover the cost through ridiculous data plans. Bill might come to around Rs 2500/month.(ATLEAST AMERICANS PAY THAT MUCH) Let me clear one thing though.. iphone is the best looking phone (its touch interface is nothing like you have ever seen ), & best browsing experience out there no doubt .... (& others are fast catching up..check out the android demo at Google IO 2008).... BUT AFTER A FEW DAYS IT ALL COMES DOWN TO FUNCTIONALITY... Those of who buy it... You will be most happy for atmost a week... & then, MARK MY WORDS...YOU WILL START REGRETTING IT!!! My advice...WAIT FOR HTC DREAM (powered by android), NOKIA N96 !! Still not convinced by then...by all means go for iPhone... "Apple, here's a suggested blurb for the iPhone 3G: "Neither twice as fast, Nor half the price"." Pretty much true. This was the only chance for apple to get recognized in a booming market in INdia but it seems that they have lost it.

31K..looks like apple, vodafone and even airtel have got the Indian market wrong...or is it that they wanted to sell for 13000 but 1 and 3 got swapped....:)

thats the most shittiest thing for that too much of price.i agree with all the commentors here.apple launching i phone with vodafone and airtel thinks that indian people are stupid but we r far better than them and absolutely far best thn americans.they price that piece of shit 3g i phone in usa at 199 dollars ,even the normal i phone.{the former oneand not the 3g } now cost abt 140 to 150 dollars tht approx rs.12000.so wat r they thinking tht r we fool.its better tht if u want to buy tht order tht either from ebay or someother online stores but i wud strongly recommend not to buy this.sony walkman phone and moblies and nokia and motorola r far better thn the apple i phone.so dnt b a looser by buying this shitty 3g i phone.on the whole its ur decision whether u wanna buy tht or not.

even with that price, phone can still be locked. iPhone is not worth it for that price... I will wait for Google/Android Phone. Should be available early next year.

Bye bye iphone, we can buy 3 Good Multimedia phones with better features for 31000.Iphone will be a flop in INDIA

I think this is just a way for them to cope with the high demand and possibly limited supply of the phone. They'll catch all the insanely rich people first and then maybe with supplies match demand, they may reduce the price a bit.

m just upset abt the promise that steve jobs had made abt the iphone being priced 199$ or else worldwide. moreover many ppl dont noe u also hav to take a voice or data plan with ur iphone. http://vodafone.in/iphone/pages/iPhoneplans.aspx

This is the worst case scenario by such big companies for their customers. I would rather import it from US and get it cracked from grey market with total cost almost equal to half of what Vodafone and Airtel are offering. They are fooling the customer. No company keeps such a big margin. I think only the people who have waste money or the people who are fool are going to buy it from these 2 companies.

Does Vodafone + Airtel really think that Indian customers are stupid? It is a well known fact that when phones are offered under a contract, they are heavily subsidized. You just can't charge full price for the device and keep the customers tied to a contract. Wake up vodafone, Indians have access to the internet and many actually go abroad frequently. We know what's going on around the world.

iPhone is way overrated and it seems vodaphone india's marketing analyst have done very awesome research sitting inside their cozy ac cabins, price wil slash down ni 1 year to 16k max..... i can bet on that!!! (ahem ahem not to mention many marketing researches are going to be fired soon , DUh!!!)

We had great faith on Apple and Vodafone till date. But the current pricing strategy seems to be a slap on our face. I think these people think Indians to be mere puppets, and they can ask for any price, they deem fit. Its just ridiculous to find the cost of iPhone to be about 3 times from its US counterpart. We don't need any iPhone

Vodafone gonna rule over iphone for in india common guys dont go for they will bring down price.... we only give them freedom to hike the price... if nobody buy then automatically they will reduce .... so BOYCOTT it....

ahahahahahhaha... no wonder apple could never sell in india.. they need to fire there marketing team here and start afresh.. frikkin idiots..

i'll actually wait for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. My Current N82 is way better, i bought it for 24K in Jan and apart from touchscreen, it has all the better features than an Iphone. moreover we'd rather buy a jailbroken iphone 2G fro around 20k rather than this junk for 31k.... i'm sure by sometime next month, we'll have vodafone and airtel telemarketers calling us and trying to sell the iphone to us...... waiting for Xperia :)

The AT&T site says that the US price for iPhone 3G without contract will be $599 when it is available without contract. Currently the 3G iPhone costs $199 plus 2 year contract which was hiked by $10/mo over the 2G phone contract. If the Vodaphone price is without contract then it is not too bad price-wise - $600 =~ Rs 25.8K. Allowing for Taxes and Customs Rs 31 is not out of line.

Iphone u can get only the multitouch functionality, no basic functionalities. What Apple is thinking?? U can get Nokia N96 or HTC Diamond which is 100 times feature packed than iphone... Iphone is gonna be a flop..

this pricing is just insane! i have been waiting for this sexy to come out...25k sounded good enough to me..but this is just ridiculous! @#@$ vodafone n airtel! hail piracy!
by fossiloflife, chennai, on Aug 20, 2008 10:55 AM, Report abuse Reply
iPhone pricing sucks!!! One should rather go for N95 or wait for N96 prices to come down. I received mail from Vodafone and it was a BIG SHOCK to see the price mentioned. Are these companies trying to ROB/Loot customers? We should rather BAN both Airtel n Vodafone. So one day they will have to reduce the pricing. This is complete UNFAIR to sell a product at 4 times higher price in another country...Its a SHAME Apple!

So much for nothing! compared with mammoths like the N96, which is far superior in features, the iphone is too expensive. with only 2 mp, no sms forwarding, interoperability issue, no biz card sending option and poor battery... why should one shell out 38 k? it's more hype than reality. i rather wait for the N96
