An AT&T insider claims the latest iPhone update fixed the connectivity issues dogging the iPhone. Power consumption the cause of connectivity issues; Infineon gets clean chit.
Ever since iPhone 3G has reached the hands of the users, there have been complains pouring in about connectivity issues resulting in dropped calls and poor call quality. Many blamed the Infineon chipsets for the iPhone's connectivity problems.
Then there was speculation that Apple's 2.0.2 update for the iPhone might address this issue. But with the update came a simple statement from the company saying "this version of the software includes the following improvements and supersedes all previous versions: bug fixes", again leaving the users wondering if it covered the 3G reception problem.
However, the latest news on this issue is that RoughlyDrafted got its hands on the technical details of the 3G connectivity problems through an AT&T insider. This source has reveled that 2.0.2 fixed the UMTS (the technology used to deliver AT&T's 3G network) power control on the mobile, which was actually the root of the problem.
