As of now, local business listings are available across four big metros, including Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, and Bangalore.
After Yahoo!'s global launch of OneSearch in March this year, Yahoo! India is now launching OneSearch SMS for Indian consumers. The service is designed exclusively for mobile phones, and provides consumers anytime, anywhere information on their handsets.
Mobile users can search for any content via Yahoo!'s short code, 58242.
When they send an SMS to 58242 with the city name, Mumbai, it will return the weather. When they send an SMS to 58242 with a business category and location (eg Pubs Mumbai), it will return the names, addresses, and phone numbers of pubs in Mumbai.
For each search query, up to 3 business listings would be provided, with the ability to ask for more by sending an 'm'.
As of now, local business listings are available across four big metros, including Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, and Bangalore.
And, Yahoo! OneSearch SMS is available through all major operators, including Airtel, Reliance Mobile, Vodafone, Idea Cellular, BPL Mobile, Aircel, Tata Indicom, and Spice Telecom.
"India is one of the fastest growing mobile markets in Asia. Yahoo! is committed to providing Indian consumers easy-to-use mobile products and services to help them access the Internet," Pranesh Anthapur, chief administrative officer of Yahoo! India said.
Along with OneSearch SMS, Yahoo! has also enhanced its existing OneSearch WAP product by introducing new content clusters, including local business listings, flight status information, and Yahoo! Answers content.
