Yahoo! is offering free PC-to-PC calls among Yahoo users and will be linking this offer with existing e-mail and IM features.
Yahoo! is offering free PC-to-PC calls among Yahoo users in 180 countries. This offering will link with existing Yahoo e-mail and instant messaging features.
Yahoo! also said that the new version of its Yahoo Messenger text, voice and video communications software will include "Phone Out", with low per-minute charges for calls from computers to phones, and "Phone In", a low-cost subscription service for phone callers to call computer users.
A customer, using a microphone and earphones, will be able to place a low-cost call from a computer to a telephone or mobile phone. Yahoo! also reportedly plans to offer a service allowing computer users to communicate with regular telephones over the Web.
Customers will also be able to sign up for plans allowing them to receive calls from far-away places at little or no cost to the caller.
The new version of Yahoo Messenger also allows users to search for contacts they have entered the system by name, by Yahoo nickname, by phone number or other contact details. Users can then choose to communicate via text, voice or e-mail.
