Windows XP SP3, Vista SP1 Resumed
Techtree News Staff Email Print
May 7, 2008
Microsoft has made good the delay previously announced as regards release of Windows XP SP3; also the stoppage of automatic updates for Windows Vista SP1.

End last month, the company delayed Windows XP SP3 and paused automatic updates for Windows Vista SP1 citing a common compatibility issue as reason. Both Windows XP SP3 and Windows Vista SP1 are now being made available through Windows Update and the Microsoft Download Center.

The oft-delayed Windows XP SP3 was previously pegged for an April 29 release but Microsoft found it to be incompatible with Dynamics RMS, a retail chain management software for small and medium sized businesses. A similar problem seemed to affect Windows Vista SP1.

Now that Microsoft has resumed the updates, they're still not being made available to customers of Dynamics RMS -- for obvious reasons. The company said it is working on a fix expected to be released later this month.
