Microsoft will mostly release Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) to retail this week, with Windows XP SP3 release to manufacturing not far behind.
Reports suggest that Microsoft will release Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) to retail this week, with Windows XP SP3 release-to-manufacturing not far behind.
Incidentally, Amazon.com has announced Vista SP1 availability dates as Wednesday, March 19.
Early last month, Vista SP1 was released to manufacturing with the final SP1 bits released to TechNet and Microsoft Developer Network (MDN) a couple of weeks after that (actually following protests by users).

I have been using Vista for last six months and no problems. It is as stable as XP. Aero effects are superb. It is human tendency to resist a change. It is a matter of getting used to it.

I'm truly hoping that SP1 is just the thing to jump-start Vista's already failed attempt at being an OS. As for Windows XP sp3, I'm not expecting much from it. XP is as stable and reliable as it's going to get (thats a far cry from Vista at the moment...).

How exactly does Vista *fail* as an OS? The only thing I see going against it is the higher resource requirements. Even in that respect, I am using it on a 1-year old 'Vista Capable' laptop (nothing fancy, 1 GB RAM and NVIDIA 6150) - it runs just fine. For me atleast, it is as stable if not more stable than XP. The security features far surpass XP. For once, Windows is offering a likeable environment for me and made me switch back from Ubuntu. The point is that if you are already happy with XP (or any other OS), maybe there is no reason for *you* to change. But I think calling Vista a failed OS is going a bit too far.
