US Fights Child Porn

18 cable operators have voluntarily decided to fight child porn by blocking those websites.
Countries around the world are finally waking up to the need for protecting children from the dangers of the Internet, among them the UK and the US. Only yesterday, we reported about Online Content Regulation in Australia. Now, a few cable operators providing Internet connections across the US have determined to take stern measures to curb child pornography.
18 cable operators that provide Internet connections to 87 percent of US homes have voluntarily decided to adopt measures to limit the distribution of child pornography, reports Ars Technica
This step forms part of an agreement among the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA), the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), and the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG).
These cable operators, in accordance with NCMEC's list, will not host websites involving child pornography on servers they control. Moreover, these cable operators will report any cases of child porn found on their servers to the NCMEC.
This isn't the first time measures have been taken by the US authorities towards curbing and eventually eradicating child porn. Last month major Internet service providers joined hands to ensure child porn images found on their servers were removed, and that subscriber access to newsgroups that offer this will be blocked.
