TringMe Brings VoIP to All Phones

TringMe Brings VoIP to All Phones

Techtree News Staff, Apr 07, 2008 1545 hrs IST

Now VoIP services for your "Calls and SMS" limited non-smartphone too.

The VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) or 'Internet Telephony' facility has been every jabber's dream come true. While people can commonly use this facility through the good-old PC, they could only wish to access this facility through a regular "non-smart phone", until now.

TringMe, a Bangalore-based firm that earlier developed a VoIP service for Smart phones, has now extended its service to basic, low-end mobile phones. To avail this 'Push & Talk' service, all one needs to do is send an SMS to TringMe.

No data service or any sort of installation is required to avail this facility. To get connected to anyone in the world with a phone connection, users can simply send an SMS to TringMe (91- 9980153695) containing the phone number that needs to be called.

In case a user is unreachable, their email inbox will become an answering machine and instead of getting a missed call, a voice mail will be mailed there. TringMe also allows users to schedule calls that are to be made.

According to Symbian market share data, Smart phones only constituted 10% of the total mobiles sold last year, leaving the other 90% of 'basic' mobile users deprived of this service. But now, with this new offering by TringMe (the patent for which is still pending) mobile phone users can make low-cost international calls, even from the most simple 'Call & SMS' function-limited cell phone.

The company TringMe was launched in October last year and currently provides click-to-call widgets, fully web-based SIP phone, enterprise and consumer centric web-based toll-free service, Mobile-VoIP, along with the facility to make and receive web based calls on phones, IMs and Web.

Considering the still-expensive outgoing ISD call-rates that we have in India, the TringMe Mobile-VoIP service seems to have potential for growth. Possibly, after this service becomes popular, callers over borders will refer to online calling as "TringMe" rather than "Ring me?"

You can visit TringMe for more information on their services.
