TringMe, a startup run by its founder Yusuf Motiwala, provides a unified platform offering that claims to integrate all existing voice and telephony communication devices. Its latest attempt at providing web-enabled voice application is the announcement of the VoicePHP programming language.

According to the TringMe website, VoicePHP is not an extension to PHP -- it is still the same scripting language developers are already familiar with. The only difference is that the inputs and outputs are voice and not text.

In October 2008 the Indian startup had introduced Flash-based support based on the VoiceXML platform. VoiceXML is another standard XML format that allows voice applications to be developed to HTML for visual applications -- in this case for Flash-based applications.

But according to TringMe, VoiceXML "fails to achieve the power of a real programming language like C, PHP..." because of its complexity and limited capabilities. Motiwala has held senior positions in Lucent and Texas Instruments. Incidentally Lucent is part of the VoiceXML Forum that was formed in 1999 -- along with AT&T, IBM, and Motorola. Currently, Ribbit (a company owned by the BT Group) uses the VoiceXML platform that allows users to send calls to phones, mobiles, VoIP, Voice-over-IM, and Web pages.

The TringMe platform APIs enable developers to create voice and telephony applications in Adobe Air, Flash, Flex, AJAX, PHP, HTML, including smartphone platforms like Symbian, Windows Mobile and the iPhone OS. TringMe provides an ecosystem wherein VoIP providers, service providers, enterprises, developers and end-users can interact. It provides a platform for the development applications that integrate voice and telephony "without worrying about the underlying details of call routing and signalling."

Tingme is a SCAM!!! Please do not use this service. It is very expensive for the receiver. I signed up for this service and recieved an 876 area code number. My wife and I made a few calls using this service to my cell phone in order to test the quality. Every call that I made to / from this service resulted in an additional charge of $1.62 to the receiver. Unfotunately 876 area code is not a US area code and is located in the Caribbean I found the below link regarding area code 876 http://www.att.com/gen/press-room?pid=6045
