The Week in Gaming Jun 28 - Jul 4, 2008

Navneet Prakash, Jul 05, 2008 1636 hrs IST

We're back with a bang, and here's the promised snapshot of gaming from last week.

Buggy Update
The latest Sony PS3 update is quite a handful; it adds an in-game XMB and Trophies and in some cases, even renders the PS3 useless. Several PS3 owners are complaining about the console freezing up or taking forever to start and so on. It isn't so with all PS3s, yet, the ones with the problem are behaving very badly. The official quote from the Playstation Blog: "UPDATE: 7/2/2008, the PlayStation 3 system software version 2.40 has been temporarily taken offline and will not be available for download as our engineers examine any possible issues with this update. The Knowledge Center will be updated with information as it becomes available; please check back here for further details."

Game Ban Down Under

Australia has banned the highly anticipated RPG-shooter, "Fallout 3". This isn't the first time down under has banned a game; thanks to the strict laws, several games have been banned before this. "Fallout 3" seems to have fallen from grace courtesy the use of morphine therein. Whatever, if the ban isn't lifted soon, gamers in Australia are in fear of losing out on an epic RPG.

WOW Expansion in Beta
Wow! "Wraith of the Lich King", the expansion that 10 million-odd WOW gamers have anxiously awaited is now open for Beta. Which means a lucky few will get to try the game before everyone else (and brag about it). The expansion promises many changes and loads of new content including a shiny new Death Knight class. The game's now in Beta; should be out and about in four to six months or even eight to ten months (strictly by Blizzard standards). We want WOW!

Fallout 3 banned in aus? *sigh*, oh well, not so hard to order in to aus from asia or america. Do they think banning it actually has some sort of effect?.
