Think Tetris and EA, and what you'll get is Tetris with a 3D twist. Mobile puzzle games just took on a new dimension -- literally and figuratively.
Tetris was the most downloaded game of 2007; now EA (Electronic Arts) Mobile has announced Tetris Blockout: think Tetris and EA, and what you'll get is Tetris with a 3D twist. Mobile puzzle games just took on a new dimension -- literally as well as figuratively.
The goal remains the same: steer blocks to where they should go and clear planes fast. The rules, too, remain the same -- you earn points for each plane you clear, and you get bonuses for clearing multiple planes at once. But in this new, 3D version by EA, the "play-scape," as it were, is dynamic and three-dimensional, making the simple objective of rotating and placing the falling blocks more difficult.
According to Travis Boatman, vice president (Worldwide Studios) of EA Mobile, "Recent advancements in mobile phones, which include improved graphics and processing speeds, have allowed us to create a fun, new version of the game. We've retained all the thrills and immersive game play of the original and added a fresh twist."
As Boatman points out, Tetris has been very successful indeed on handhelds; the game, incidentally, was first introduced over 20 years ago. As of now, Tetris Blockout is available on major wireless carriers throughout North America and Europe. It is the newest addition to a line-up of Tetris titles, which includes Tetris, a multiplayer version of the game, and Tetris Mania.
