What do you think of Windows Vista? Love it? Hate it? Don't care about it? Let us know
Windows Vista has been something of a mess for Microsoft. Even the big boys don't want to play nice when it comes to the latest OS from Microsoft. And why should they, when Ballmer himself called the operating system a 'work-in-progress'?
But we want to know what you think about Windows Vista. Is it your operating system of choice? Or do see little reason to upgrade from Windows XP? If the latter, what will make you change your mind? More games that support Vista? Applications that leverage that DirectX 10 technology to bring in a new-class of interface? Or are you satisfied with a variant of Linux? Perhaps, you have found solace in the Apple eco-system, and are content with the simplicity and elegance of Mac OS X?
Do you think Microsoft has another Windows ME in hand, with Vista? Or will people slowly upgrade to Vista as they did from Windows 95/98 to Windows XP? Will it take a PR effort to change people's mind? Like Microsoft is trying with a series of ads featuring Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld? Or will it take convincing through a bizzare thought-experiment?
I hate that most games online do not support windows vista!

vista is very wierd to me, its a incomplete operatiing system , but very easy to handle on a end user level, comparing it to XP or any other.... if your system requirements are high then vista runs wonders... i have been using it for almost 8 months now, no issues whatsoever..

Intially I was frustrated but almost after 6 months I am getting the hang of it and will probably like it more than XP SP2

Vista is a total disaster - it's too heavy on the PC plus, it is not very user friendly and is just more appealing to the eyes when compared to the XP.

I dont like VIST, slow, hardware/software compatibility issues, No good GUI. We dont want good looks but simplicity. Giant Size on HDD. I would like it as simple as possible

Yup. I love Vista. I don't know why there is a propaganda against Vista. It has stunning looks, amazing interactivity, and i daresay more user friendly than any Linux distro will be. All my games play superbly on it. Its definitely my OS of choice.

Vista I guess Microsoft tried too much with it.Still its a decent product and looks are stunning in many wanys you will find it easier just the backdraw is its huge hardware requirment.Which is now very common.I hope to see vista getting better.....still its not worst.

I don't know if other people have witnessed this issue or not, I download a lot of content. And the funny thing is that in Vista, the temp files keeps increasing. Then comes a point were the complete C Drive is full, and I can't open any app or let alone save anything cause the C Temp files are full. This really sucks. Is there a patch or something for this? Cause even the SP did not resolve this.

Vista works great for me. The quick search feature is my favourite, and this alone reduced my adjustment curve drastically. May be sluggish for those who use Norton Antivirus and have less than 2 GB of RAM. Sp2 supports far more legacy hardware. Also I found it rock solid compared to XP, no crashes to date (post Sp2). After vista i cannot think of downgrading to XP.

The main thing about XP's popularity till today is that it was present when more and more people were starting using computers. XP is the most user friendly operating system till date....or it's just that people are used to it. The maximum number of applications, games, softwares and other things support XP. XP is lite, it's easy on system resources and it's simple and untangled. Vista on other hand is so vibrant and the screen looks so filled up that it's a confusion and discomfort. But for a person who starts using an OS today, Vista would be his best shot coz it has everything that a n00b would want.

I rolled back to windows xp after using vista for quiet some time. doesnt play all the media files....at times the machine slows down. other applications sometimes get stuck...

NO! Still does not recognize some of my hardware, some of my older software does not work. Bloated. Why can you get a complete OS and software on a CD with Linux, but Vista alone takes Gigabytes? Does not play all media formats. If I have to move to a newer version of Windows, it will be server 2008.

I'm using Vista Ultimate since last 10 Months, absolutely Great Os. Works on average system without any problems. Average System - (as of today with atleast 2GB ram & intel core 2 duo or Amd x2) only a few features different from windows XP rest it the same with eye catching Graphics, Themes & Layout.

I've been using Vista Ultimate for past 6 months and I have no complain against it. It's superb, better than XP. But you got to have a above-average computer to see how good it is.

Vista has deviated from the core purpose of an OS-to provide desktop management and run applications. It exhausts the system of its resources & makes life harder for the applications. Its like boiling water with Nuclear energy; beauty lies in simplicity.

Vista asks too resources much to run @ decent speeds... Yes, I have tested one Laptop with Core2Duo processor running @ DualCore Processor like speed performance... For installation, XP takes some 650MBs, while Vista takes HD space as granted and gulps few GBs of disk space for no good reason... I dont think cost is an issue here... Because I am not willing to buy Vista, even if they offer it for FREE..

Laptop - yes desktop - no Well laptop i see only movies and very light strategy gaming the x3100 is not good for that and for desktop were i play games like crzy Vista just was a bi of a slug.. I mean it eats more ram is heavy on the GPU has useless Special effects and also makes some games either not start or unplayable...

No, I do not at home or office where Win XP Home is installed. Would like to see how Win 7 stacks up before upgrading my home / office OS.

i like windows vista.. its not that bad... it is not optimized(takes too much of resources)... it runs pretty well on my 2.4g x2.... the thing is that it takes time to learn... guess sp2 should solve the problems
