Sun, Tech Mahindra in IPTV Tie

A partnership has been announced between Sun Microsystems India and Tech Mahindra to enable roll-out of cost-effective and efficient IPTV services in India and the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.
Along with AMD, Sun and Tech Mahindra will set up a Gen-Next IPTV lab at the Tech Mahindra facility in Pune.
The upcoming IPTV lab will feature solutions from a group of partners, including Digisoft, Envivio, Harmonic, I-Make, Verimatrix, Mototech, as well as Sun's own Streaming System.
Significantly, the lab will showcase a pre-integrated end-to-end IPTV system for tier 1, tier 2, and tier 3 service providers.
Through the lab, Tech Mahindra will showcase its IPTV domain expertise to global customers, whereas potential customers, OEMs, and ISVs will get to test and validate the capabilities of Sun's Streaming system.
Speaking at the launch, K P Unnikrishnan, Director of Strategic Alliances, Sun Microsystems India, said, this is Sun's first such alliance in the country for IPTV services, and that through this alliance, they are looking forward to showcasing an end-to-end IPTV solution based on carrier grade Sun systems featuring the revolutionary Sun streaming system.
Unnikrishnan said that Tech Mahindra was a natural choice, given their expertise and experience in telecom solutions and services, as well as their intimate knowledge of the Indian market. This alliance would help bring the Sun Streaming System's market-changing economics to customers in the video services industry in India.
Shankar Allimatti, Vice President of Next Generation Technologies, Tech Mahindra, said that through its sustained investments in R&D, Tech Mahindra has developed IPTV capabilities across several areas that include consulting services, system integration capabilities, network technology areas, etc.
Allimatti said Tech Mahindra is playing a significant role with a number of incumbent and emerging service providers in the IPTV domain and Triple Play. Tech Mahindra has partnered with the industry best product vendors like Sun to offer an end-to-end IPTV system to service providers globally.
