Weighs 1.5 pounds, boasts of "all day and into the night" battery life
At the on-going IFA 2009 expo at Berlin in Germany, Sony has announced new Sony VAIO X ultraportable laptop. Any ultra-thin laptop is bound to be compared with Apple s MacBook Air. Sony s new 11.2-inch VAIO X series laptop is 0.55-inch thick while the MacBook Air is 0.76-inch thick at the thickest point. Engineering prototypes were shown at the IFA 2009 expo that had carbon fiber body and aluminum keyboard making it weigh around 1.5 pounds.
Though the VAIO X laptop was equipped with Intel Atom at the Expo, Sony is yet
to decide on the ultra-low voltage processor to be used, as reported by Engadget. It s likely for Sony to consider Intel Atom variant Pineview processors that will come in single core and dual-core flavors. Pineview CPUs built with 45nm process would be clocked higher than Atom CPUs and will have integrated memory controller, GMA 950 IGP and built-in northbridge functions.
However, Sony promises built-in 3G wireless and all day and into the night battery life. We presume this might one of those ultra-portable netbooks. This VAIO X series ultraportable has USB ports, SD Memory slot, WWAN SIM Slot and VGA out for video output why not HDMI?
This VAIO X-series ultraportable laptop is expected to launch a week after Windows 7 s launch on Oct. 22. And only then we ll get to know about the exact specifications and price of this laptop.
Sony already faces competition from a couple of ultraportable laptops by Samsung, MSI X-Slim, Acer and Dell.

If it doesn't have a backlit keyboard then its not all that great compared with others on the market for MUCH less like the Acer Aspire 1810T which has long battery life and very slim for $1,000 less probably.

I hope that netbook doesn't cost greater than $899 with Windows7.
