Through some documents leaked a week back, it was revealed that Sony Pictures' Hancock would see a release over the Internet, before the movie comes on discs. The leak also hinted at greater integration of Sony's products and services.

Today, Stan Glasgow, President and COO of Sony Electronics confirmed a strategy of consolidation and synergy. Stan stated that Sony consumer lines from game consoles to cameras, would soon share common interface elements as well as share data between each other over a common network.

The common interface could well be the
XrossMediaBar (XMB) that is iconic on the PlayStation Portable (PSP) and the PlayStation 3 (PS3) consoles. Note that the XMB is already making its presence felt on the latest Bravia range of TV sets, so it might indeed be the common window through which one interacts with Sony's many devices.

In addition to sharing an interface, the devices will also share a network connection, forming a large pool of Sony-branded phones, cameras, laptops, computers, consoles, televisions and so on. This could hint at the '
Network' vision that Ken Kutaragi, the ex-architect of the PlayStation line shared so long ago (around the time the PS2 was released!). Sony produced content could be shared across these multiple devices: a movie from Sony Pictures, for example making an appearance on a Sony Bravia television before it is released on Blu-Ray media. And so on. Imagine the PSP-to-PS3
Remote Play connection extended to all Sony devices -- TV or cellphones and you get a perspective on what's being planned inside of Sony.
