As per the London Financial Times, Sony is in talks with Microsoft to bring out Xbox 360 consoles with Blu-ray drives.
With HD-DVD dead, Microsoft now seems to be moving on, and is believed to be considering collaborating with the current format champion Blu-ray to fill the void left by demise of HD-DVD.
As per the London Financial Times, Sony is in talks with Microsoft to bring out Xbox 360 consoles with Blu-ray drives. The newspaper reported that the two giants (rivals in a sense) were in discussions at a media dinner last week.
Before Toshiba went public with dropping its HD-DVD format, Microsoft's Xbox 360 had been supporting an HD-DVD external drive. In a sense, the exodus of major Hollywood studios and retail chains from HD-DVD in favor of Blu-ray led to Toshiba officially nailing the format. Microsoft's decision is but a fall-out of the demise of HD-DVD.
IT IS INCREDIBLE HOW YOU GUYS BUY AND TALK ABOUT PRODUCTS AS IT YOU DONT KNOW ABOUT THE BACKGROUND OF EACH COMPANY. BLU-RAY WON THE FORMAT NOT BECAUSE OF QUALITY BUT STORAGE CAPACITY (MEANING MORE DATE INSIDE) SO STOP MAKING COMMENTS OUT OF STUPIDITY AND FACE THINGS, NOT ONLY MICROSOFT BUT ALL COMPANIES WILL HAVE TO ADOPT BLU-RAY FOR THE SAME REASON; ITS NOT ABOUT GAMES. ONE LAST THING PLEASE...WHEN MICROSOFT THOUGHT ABOUT GAMING, SONY WAS IN THE MARKET LONGER THAN YOU THINK. DO NOT BE FANS

Shouldn't the justice department investigate this Monopolistic behavior by Sony?

there is nothing wrong with a company trying to get another company to sell there product. its always been like that. and people shouldn't be telling people now that hd is going to go to blueray...let them buy what they want...invest in what you want...listen to ur head not others

Microsoft's best option is to just focus on Downloadable HD Video. They do need to allow HD movie PURCHASES instead of just rentals (Amazon and iTunes already allow it) but other than that the quality of the HD video they have already is excellent. If they add closed captioning and bonus features to rentals/purchases I would never buy another disk.

I'm not about to buy and download a bunch of HD video from Xbox live. It would take only a few movies to fill my 360's hard drive, and when you download from live you can only save the content to your 360 hard drive. I prefer to buy and download gaming related stuff to my 360 because that's why I bought it, FOR GAMING! Not that I don't watch movies with my 360, it does double as my DVD player, but I would much rather see Microsoft offer a stand alone Bluray player like the HDDVD player they are axing. I would buy a stand alone unit if they offered one and it was priced reasonably.

Who the hell cares about what format the 360 will use! It is a gaming console not a crappy DvD wannabe like the Ps3. People should get a DvD player if they want good movies and not a gaming console! God knows that the Ps3 wouldn't sell at all if that happened. This is the result of the problem we have today: Too many useless gadgets in a useful one (although if a blu-ray attachment meant the Ps3 would die ill get one know).

Are you three retarded? Monopolistic? Blu-Ray is a superior format, and it won because of that. Toshiba, BestBuy, Netflix all contributed to the demise of HD-DVD. It's not because Sony is 'monopolistic'. People just don't want to have 2 different players for 2 different formats. As for you Robert... Go ahead and keep your HD-DVD... good luck finding any new movies for it though. HD-DVD is dead. GET OVER IT.

Wow! arrogence at it's finest. No one bothered to ask the consum,er what they wanted. I invested in HD-DVD and I am not replaceing it just because some wanna be in a suit decides he likes something else. Take your blue ray and stick it in your machines and stop trying to make the consumer do it your way. We like choice. And I for one will continue to build my machines with what I want in them, and not what you dictate I should be limited too!
