Sony: PS4 will Include the Cell Processor

The new hardware will also include standard DDR3 memory which is cheaper and will further cut costs.
Sony is playing a proud parent to its joint venture with Toshiba and IBM, a.k.a., The Cell Processor. Sony plans to incorporate The Cell Processor in the next iteration of Playstation hardware, that is, the PS4.
The PS3 was far superior to the PS2; it is essentially a great gaming console and an equally good media center. The PS4 will use similar architecture but smaller 45nm chips. This means that Sony will be able to produce a next-next-gen console at bare minimum costs, while attempting to deliver an experience equivalent to the Xbox 720 or the Wii-Wii.
The new hardware will also include standard DDR3 memory which is cheaper and will further cut costs. The most striking and smart feature of Sony's decision is that it will make game developers exceedingly happy.
Also, since the PS4 will be based on the same architecture as the PS3, designing games will be less of a hassle for the developers. We'll just have to wait and watch what the future has in store for Sony. As for now, let's look forward to more games on the PS3.
