'iPhone' killer at killer price

The much anticipated Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, touted as iPhone killer, has finally been launched in India and that too at a whooping price of Rs. 44500 -- only (pun intended)!

The Xperia X1 sports 3-inch VGA display, full QWERTY keyboard, arc-slider design and metal-finish body. Featuring nine customizable panel interface, the phone sports Windows Mobile platform, offers higher data services with HSDPA/HSUPA and WiFi support. The expandable memory support allows adding more storage.

For more dope you can check out our Xperia X1 experience straight from the labs and also the unboxing tour.

Xperia X1's exorbitant price tag is likely to turn off many mobile fans, but it would be interesting to know how will it fair against iPhone, Samsung Omnia, Nokia 5800 and other competitors in the touchscreen arena. At such a high price one can easily buy a full form factor desktop or a good entry-level laptop. So, are you guys ready to shell out around 45,000 for a phone? Do let us know.

They needn't have bothered to launch it at all... They could have directly sold off 10k pieces to those who were interested, why make another loss by actually marketing it.

I WANT TO BUY THIS MOBILE PHONE AND I AM LIVING IN JAIPUR

The phone looks good and I spent a good amount of time reading various international reviews of it .. Brought me almost 95% towards buying it... The lo and behold, an audacious (and seriously stupid) price tag of 44,500 hard earned rupees in recession time .. Now I am definetely not buying it unless they drop the prices... Only shocker that remains is what will be the price of the X-2 (when that is launched)?

Iphone killer? Nah don't see it doing that! At the price I would be surprised if it sells at all. Of course it will sell a dozen pieces to the ultra rich and dumb in the head. Like some big company's CEO's spoilt brat of a son. And thats no Pun! Hey I rhyme!!! :)

NOT AT ALL !!!! these sony ppl are not aware of the fact that the world economy is in a recession and not a boom.

Absolutely not, it sure is highway robbery. AM sure they will soon come to their senses and price it around 30 grand. Buyers would want to steer clear of this phone considering the way SE drops it prices after 3-4 months.

by Varun, Gurgaon, on Nov 19, 2008 10:36 PM, Report abuse   Reply

It is only 22000 to 25000 in singapore and in canada it is only 15000

So, are you guys ready to shell out around 45,000 for a phone? NO

by zach, bangalore, on Nov 16, 2008 06:44 PM, Report abuse   Reply

I have always loved sony ericsson phones, and i always wanted to buy xperia X1....but at 44.5K, its a strict NO NO.... SE is either incredibably smart to price it so, or extremely insane.

by Eric, Gurgaon, on Nov 16, 2008 03:10 PM, Report abuse   Reply

It sure won't have any takers but atleast they should have thought that India is not like USA or UK where the handset prices are subsidised by the mobile network providers like Vodafone, Orange etc. It would only make sense in India to get this if a network like airtel offers the phone with an initial payment of 10000Rs and monthly contract of 1500Rs for 2 years or so. Atleast the mobile network providers like Airtel should start considering this option for expensive phones

Well , I have awaited this phone since a long time, right now have a P1, looking at the price it seems the good old days where we purchased a P900 for 37k ! Seems outrageous now ! No way man , I love SE but the price is way too much !

Buy it at THAT price? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

by Ash G, Kolhapur, on Nov 14, 2008 03:13 PM, Report abuse   Reply

at an age when i would expect technology like this to get cheaper and more affordable, it just seems to cost more and more and more!!

by Vivek, Mumbai, on Nov 14, 2008 01:19 PM, Report abuse   Reply

Only good thing about this launch is they launched first in India, bad thing is that they have done so without understanding the Indian market and Indian consumer
