At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Sony Ericsson has unveiled seven new handsets, of which the XPERIA X1 is the first to bundle the Windows Mobile OS.

Apart from Nokia, LG, and Samsung, Sony Ericsson has announced a slew of phones at the ongoing Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in Spain.

Of the seven Sony Ericsson phones launched, the G700 and G900 are designed as touch-screen organizers to help users keep contacts, calendars, notes, pictures, and Web sites all in one place and just a fingertip away.

The compact G700 features: one-touch full organizer functions; large 2.4-inches display with single-touch control menu; and 3.2 mega pixels camera -- among others.

The G900 has all the features of the G700 except for the camera which is a 5.0 mega pixels one with touch auto-focus and multi-shot functions.

The G700 will be available in Silk Bronze while the G900 will be available in Dark Red and Dark Brown. Both UMTS 2100 and GSM/GPRS 900/1800/1900 phones will be available in select markets from the second quarter of 2008.

Among the other five phones, Sony Ericsson has announced its W980 Walkman phone that promises to help users get the most out of their music.

The W980 Walkman phone features: Walkman on top; intuitive music access and control, 8GB internal memory allowing storage of up to 8,000 songs; and built-in FM transmitter allowing users to send music on their phones to other devices.

The UMTS/HSDPA 2100 GSM/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900 W980 Walkman phone will ship in select markets from the third quarter this year.

Of the remaining four handsets, Sony Ericsson announced additions to its Cyber-shot range: the C702 Cyber-shot and the C902 Cyber-shot.

Both phones claim to sport the latest in camera technology, making it a breeze for users to take near-perfect pictures of spontaneous moments, sharing them with friends and family.

The C702 Cyber-shot has a splash-resistant and dust-resistant design, and features a 3.2 mega pixels camera, built-in GPS with location-based imaging, Google Maps, and one-hand capture -- among others.

The other Cyber-shot, the C902 sports a slim design, and features a 5 mega pixels camera with face detection and auto focus covered by a slide-out lens cover, eight illuminated camera touch keys, 160MB built-in memory to store up to 100 full-resolution photos, and memory stick micro M2 for adding more memory.

The UMTS/HSDPA 2100 and EDGE/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900 C702 Cyber-shot will be available in select markets in Speed Black or Cyan Blue in the second quarter of 2008. The EDGE/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900 C702a Cyber-shot and C702c Cyber-shot phones will be available in select markets within the same time-frame.

The UMTS/HSDPA 2100 and EDGE/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900 C902 Cyber-shot phone will be available in select markets in Swift Black or Luscious Red from the second quarter of this year. While the EDGE/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900 C902c Cyber-shot will be available in select markets within the same time-frame.

Of the remaining two phones, Sony Ericsson has launched its elegant clamshell phone, the Z770, which has been optimized for the Web and benefits from HSDPA data speeds.

Not only does the phone promise a superior Web surfing experience but also has an 'email set-up wizard' that makes it simple for the user to access his/her inbox. The Z770 can also be connected directly to a laptop via USB cable, and can be used as a modem.

The UMTS/HSDPA 2100 and GSM/EDGE 900/1800/1900 Z770 phone will be available in select markets in Vogue Red, Graphite Black, and Exquisite Gold from the second quarter of 2008.

Last man standing, the XPERIA X1, holds a lot of promise. An arc-slider phone, it has been designed to address the growing need for a premium, converged mobile experience.

The arc design makes the phone stand out. The screen slides upwards to reveal the wide-pitch QWERTY keyboard. The XPERIA offers multiple navigation via touch, full QWERTY keyboard, four-way key, and optical joystick. It sports a 3-inches clear wide VGA display, and features Windows Mobile operating system (OS), high data transfer rate (HSDPA/HSUPA), WiFi support, and A-GPS.

The XPERIA X1, Sony Ericsson's first handset to bundle the Windows Mobile OS, will ship in select markets starting in the second half of this year.

At the Mobile World Congress, Sony Ericsson has also launched its first HSPA 7.2/2.0 devices with the ExpressCard/34 form factor -- the EC400 and EC400g. Both mobile Broadband ExpressCards are meant to help busy professionals on the go save precious time.

Hehe...that was exactly my reaction when i read the N91 4GB user guide (after learning that it could store upto 4000 songs)..this is what it said: "...for files uploaded in 32kbps e-AAC+ format." And this tops it all-"e-AAC+ is a high efficiency format that gives near CD-quality audio at bitrates as low as 32 kbps"..i laughed my head off at this one!
