Software Tool CDs in 7 Languages

The Department of Information Technology (DIT) has come out with CDs containing software tools and fonts in as many as seven Indian languages.
The Department of Information Technology (DIT) has come out with CDs containing software tools and fonts in as many as seven Indian languages meant for free distribution to the public.
Union Minister for Communications & Information Technology, Dayanidhi Maran, released the CDs in seven regional languages, including Assamese, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, and Urdu.
Earlier, CDs of software tools and fonts were available in three regional languages; Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu. This new release is considered a landmark in a series of releases of software tools and fonts in various Indian languages.
All CDs feature true type fonts with keyboard driver and multi-font keyboard engine, Unicode compliant open type fonts, and keyboard driver, generic fonts code, and storage code converter, localized as well as English version of Bharateeya, Spellchecker, bilingual dictionary, transliteration tool, language tutor package, etc.
All regional language CDs have been developed/consolidated by C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing), an autonomous scientific society under the administrative control of the Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications & Information Technology.
C-DAC has also joined hands with several academia, R&D labs, and private industries under the patronage of DIT for this initiative.
The language tools and fonts available on the CDs are also being made available on Web sites: www.ildc.in and www.ildc.gov.in for free downloads.

reluctency of of our government has put some language out of reach from interested people. The development had done by Union Government for Bengali Language (it is second most spoken language, almost 7% of Indian speaks that language) but unfortunately that is missing from the language pack. I found the most Bangla software developed and contributed by Bangladeshi people. Why should India Govt should not wake up now? Are they not getting sufficient professional to get the language developed?

ildc people never send you any CDs. This is just any eye-wash, I tell you. It's better to use software such as HindiWriter from hindiwriter.org which you can use to write in Hindi langauage in any Unicode compatible software.
